Back in August I posted a few posts about the guns on display at the Rock Island Arsenal Museum. A week or so ago I got back there, this time with a better camera and a determination to get at least a decent photo of most every modern-ish firearm, as well as much of the documentation (such as it is).
If you like this sort stuff I post, you can support the cause by Buying My Stuff, which includes aerospace drawings and documents, as well as the journal of unbuilt aircraft and spacecraft projects, Aerospace Projects Review. Or you could just Donate.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
“Cal. 30″, in the time period specified, implies 7.62x51mm NATO, but the magazine wells look freaking *huge* to me, so I wonder if the cartridge was actually something else. I’d like to see the magazines that those guns used.
Also, firing a full powered rifle round from a 14” barrel, especially from a short bullpup weapon like that, would undoubtedly produce an invigorating muzzle blast and flash.
I suspect that they are Silent Weapon System – Alpha prototypes chambered for the Cal. .30 XM76 cartridge. The XM76 cartridges used a captured piston to keep the propellant gas trapped inside the case.
I think this may be the patent for a magazine intended for the Silent Weapon System – Alpha prototypes on display (Items 5810-5813).
