Here’s a good idea: if you were involved int he British rioting and looting AND you are getting your housing free from the taxpayers… get ready for a change of scenery:

First rioter given eviction notice

A council tenant whose son has appeared in court charged in connection with Monday night’s disturbances in Clapham Junction will today (Friday) be served with an eviction notice.

The tenant is believed to be the first in the country to now be facing the prospect of losing their council-owned home as a result of Monday night’s rioting and looting.

Wandsworth Council has acted immediately in the wake of local magistrates courts hearings to instigate tough action against tenants or members of their households who were directly involved in the disturbances

“Council housing” is, I believe, the chav-equivalent of the PJ’s. Crappy warehousing of people who have been bred and trained to be wholly dependent upon government handouts. Booting the rioters and those responsible for them out into the cold, cold world seems like the very least that can be done. Permanently eliminating them from ever getting another penny of taxpayer welfare would be another good step.

The difficulty of course is that you now have a whole army of people with no skills, no sense of self control, no concept of ethical behavior, a massive sense of entitlement and suddenly nowhere and no way to live. This is a recipe for even more trouble. But, like I said, you have an *army* of these idiots. Kick ’em out onto the streets. keep an eye on ’em. The moment they break their very next law, nab ’em and toss them into Her Majesty’s Own First Royal Chav Batallion. Give each of them the standard substandard one-day training, a chrome plated Glock and a free ride to Afghanistan. Let ’em romp and play in the mountains with their intellectual and ethical equivalents, the Taliban.

For no verifiably useful reason, I decided to take a look at my Blog Stats. Shows stuff like how many visits the blog gets, where people click links to come to it, which posts got how many visits, etc. One set of stats is “search terms” people use to come to the blog. Below is what’s listed for yesterday. Note that people don’t seem to be coming to the blog for fantastic photography of cats or lightning, or unbuilt aircraft & spacecraft projects, or political rants & news: no, people want Hot Redheads.

Every single data point tells me that if I want to make money, I’ve gotta turn The Unwanted Blog into a hardcore pornaterium.

The movie “The Rocketeer” captured a fair bit of the 1930’s art deco design ethic in props and sets. Some of that revolved around a “Cirrus X3”  rocketpack (actually a jetpack… details, details) designed by Howard Hughes and intended to be unveiled at the 1939 World’s Fair.

I stumbled across a website that has a good-quality copy of one of the posters used in the movie. I don’t know if someone actually had access to one of the actual movie props, or if they recreated it, but it looks good:

Here’s a hell of a thing:

New leukemia treatment exceeds ‘wildest expectations’

Basically, a neutered and defanged form of the HIV virus is used to insert a new gene sequence into leukemia patients white blood cells. The new gene sequence turns the white cells into “serial killers” that target the cancer cells, *and* causes the white cells to reproduce themselves a thousand fold. End result: three patients treated this way got a fever (symptom of the white blood cells fighting off an infection), and two of them are now leukemia-free, the third has had a 70% reduction.

Needs a lot more research,  but if it pans out… neato! Cancer might be cured.

A 1989 propaganda video describing the Shuttle-C expendable cargo launcher:

[youtube qrfUQMiFPNc]

Be entertained by the clumsy, smarmy “for the children,” the over-use of Holsts’ “The Planets,” the badly outdated computer graphics, the fear of the Soviet Union and the ginormous workstations that could probably be replaced with an Ipod.
