The movie “The Rocketeer” captured a fair bit of the 1930’s art deco design ethic in props and sets. Some of that revolved around a “Cirrus X3”  rocketpack (actually a jetpack… details, details) designed by Howard Hughes and intended to be unveiled at the 1939 World’s Fair.

I stumbled across a website that has a good-quality copy of one of the posters used in the movie. I don’t know if someone actually had access to one of the actual movie props, or if they recreated it, but it looks good:

  1. I didn’t catch the fact during the movie that the poster had the Trylon and Perisphere in it:

Aimee Mann wrote a really beautiful song about the 1939 World’s Fair:

  2. So…hughes accomplishes personal manned flight by liquefying the lower bodies of their customers?

    Sweet.
