Who May Apply:

Bigelow Aerospace seeks professional astronauts to fill permanent positions. Qualified applicants need to have completed a training program from their government or recognized space agency and have at least some flight experience on a recognized space mission. Specialized training and/or experience (ie: Medical, Payload Specialist, EVA, Pilot, etc.) is not a pre-requisite, but is definitely a plus.

Possible opportunities will come in two areas:

1) Ground

  • Working with Marketing Team to secure government and cooperate clients.<\LI>
  • Working with Design and Fabrication Teams to help optimize layout of systems for on-orbit serviceability and ergonomics.<\LI>
  • Working with Mission Control Team on final checkout of flight vehicles, both pre and post launch
  • Help Develop Astronaut training programs for Bigelow Aerospace Professional Astronaut Corps as well as Client Astronaut Corps.
  • Work instructing in the Bigelow Astronaut Training Program

2) Flight

  • Perform as Professional Astronaut aboard Bigelow Aerospace Station Complex
  • Manage all onboard aspects of employee and customer astronaut personal safety
  • Maintain the Station Complex as required (mainly IVA, but some EVA as well)
  • Help clients with payloads or experiments (primarily with regards to integration into station’s systems and communications)

  1. I saw a job posted in the paper some 25 years ago looking for someone with among other things, 10 years experience in creating shaped charges specifically for underwater demolition. Honeywell Defense was posting the job, so I always figured that they had simply written it to the resume of the guy they wanted to hire and it was simply in the paper to satisfy red tape requirements.

    If this is a private company I don’t think they’d be doing this, but would rather go directly to the handful of people with the skillset they want.

    This is a common enough procedure.

  3. Law requires them to do this public offer to fill their projected job slots, otherwise they would be charged with employment discrimination. Of course they know who they are going to hire, that is a rather small, close knit community of specialists.

  4. Additional job requirements : Must work for a wack-job named bob.
    Sound familiar Scot ?

    This is much more conservative than his little green men/flying saucer ads in Space News from days gone by. At least he isn’t asking to ‘Beam Up’ your resume like before.

  5. Which is ironic, since “beaming up” is actually a pretty good description of downloading something into someone’s database.
