An Artificial Retina With the Capacity to Restore Normal Vision
It’s not quite what might be expected from the title. In short, the “neural codes” – basically the signals that the retina sends to the optic nerve – for a mouse and a monkey have been worked out. This would allow imagery from a video system to be transmitted to the brain. It’s not exactly a replacement for a screwed-up retina, although I imagine in less than a generation such will be possible.
The article actually suggests a Star Trek “Visor.”
