Well THAT didn’t take very friggen’ long… it’s only been a week since the last time the WordPress blog decided – on its own – to shut down commenting. Well, I’ve done this enough times that it doesn’t take long to turn it back on.
Just remember: if you try to post a comment and it tells you you need to be registered or logged in to do so… it’s a lyin’ rat. Send me an email, and I’ll cuss a bit and reset things.

Are you or the ISP getting power fluctuations or outages? It almost sounds like it’s resetting to a default configuration.
Another thought here; are you doing system back-ups? Could it be reverting to earlier settings when that’s being done?

The upside is that with so many blogs out there using WordPress, it’s virtually certain that someone has run into the exact same problem before you did, and a cure is well known to that particular problem by the WordPress Brainiacs.
