Came a few days back, August 30. Didn’t stick very long, of course.

  1. It’s of course the altitude, but the fact that you get snow so much earlier than we do up here in North Dakota still hits me as strange.
We probably won’t have even a mild snow before October, and generally only have snow that stays on the ground only by Thanksgiving.
Back during the Lewis and Clarke expedition, they figured it would take them a few days to get over the Rocky Mountains.
As someone recently reading their journals put it: “The fact that the temperature where they were at when they first caught sight of the Rockies was near one hundred degrees Fahrenheit, and the top of those mountains were covered with snow, should have given them some idea that those mountains were higher than they thought they were.” 😀

The *last* snow I’ve experience here at the house was in June. I understand that it’s not been much more than a decade since a *first* snow in this exact area was sometime in mid/late July.

  3. We don’t usually get our first snow until early december here in NW Arkansas.
