1) Mount camera to tripod
2) Adjust focus for infinity (then bump the camera, accidentally slightly adjusting focus, and fail to notice)
3) Attach the remote cable shutter release
4) Set ISO for something low, like 400
5) Set exposure time for something long, like 10 to 30 seconds.
6) Lock the shutter release down, then back away for a quarter hour or so and let the camera click away
7) Download photos, and ditch the 90+% that don’t have anything on ’em.
Similar process for daytime lightning photography, except for far shorter exposure times and a vast number of wasted shots. Yay, digital!
