I’ve not had the best two or three weeks. I kinda expected that I’d filled today’s quota of suckitude when I opened the freezer to find that it has apparently lost all its coolant and all my frozen chow has thawed. Then I looked at the road in front of my house, and found that things had gotten even worse. No more sisters.
Gah. GAHHHHHRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
I’m really very sorry about the cats. I know how they can fit into a life.
I’ve had the freezer go out. And, as off 2007, two refrigerators (but one was my parents’ and I was 15, so it may not count).
Your karma can’t possibly be this bad. Must be an attack by the deranged younger brother of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
> Your karma can’t possibly be this bad.
The Norse put great stock in the concept of “luck,” it was something that some people just naturally had, other people didn’t. I know where I would fall on that spectrum.
As they say, “If you can’t be a good example, be a warning.”
Don’t be like me, kids. Very sad life. Probably have very sad death. But, at least there is symmetry.
It’s not over yet.
Right now my luck is mixed. I have a nice place to live, a woman who will tolerate my ranting and my books, but no application for my skills, talents, and knowledge (I’m told I’m too old to be employed, and volunteering around here is merely facilitating failure).
I admit I don’t keep any records on jobs for which I apply. It seems as waste of hard drive space to do that. I’ve had two interviews (other than retail) since 1991: one was because I filled out the EEOC form incorrectly, and the other was an accidental hit through monster.com.
But there’s always hope. There’s always a new direction to test.
goddam, why are those things happing ?
the little Sisters had deserves better fate !
Talk about bad luck and bad karma. Those piece of sh*t hit and run F*ckheads who did this will have that subconscious thought of a black cat crossing their path.
Maybe just a seconds worth of memory and distraction to drift across lanes into the path of an on-coming Freightliner for the karmic payback.
I notice this “Karma” thing has come up twice now.
Thing to do is screw over fate and invite everyone you know over for a big dinner before the thawed food goes bad.
You supply the food; they supply the booze.
Good party.
Then, reconsider the concept of “frozen food” before civilization collapses, as many assure us it well before the Obama presidency is at its logical, and horrible, end.
Although a generator hooked up to a cat-driven treadmill may work, there is no way in hell that Raidthinn is going to go for that concept, as he would much prefer _you_ to be on the treadmill, and he sit if front of the fan that the treadmill is generating power for, as indeed is his proper station in life.
…You know, it could be a wake for Little Sister 2.
That would get you _so_ many “Sensitivity Points” with any women at the party, that it’s hard to overestimate its total effect.
Just a thought. 😉
I’ve had some luck with training my cats to stay the frak away from cars, or at least be aware of them. Involves driving the car while their in the yard, road or driveway, pretending the car is a monster and threatening them with it with feints, engine revving and horn honking. A couple of episodes and they seem to the idea and give cars respect. Haven’t lost one in a while now, anyway.
I’m really sorry about the sisters.
The Little Sisters black coloration probably worked against them being seen by cars at night in time enough to avoid hitting them, particularly if they were crouching in the underbrush at the edge of the road and would run out in front of approaching vehicles as they attempted to get back to or out of the yard on their nightly hunts.
There have been at least three cat fatalities on that road since I started reading this blog, and no doubt numerous close calls also.
One thing that might lead to this is the cats attempting to retrieve mice and other small creatures that cars have struck on the road for food, and not having enough time to pick them up them and get out of the way before another vehicle comes along.
Although hard to say, it might not be a wise idea to keep feeding the stray cats in the vicinity, as it gives them an incentive to cross that road to get to the food Scott puts out for them at his house, rather than “living off the land” far from the road.
Putting out even more food for them so that they don’t have to cross the road to get fully fed on nearby wildlife at night will soon result in a ever-growing cat population at the house and yet higher feeding expenses, as what this is beginning to resemble is a cat welfare program in its overall dynamics.
