“I am a Muslim,” Obama Tells Egyptian Foreign Minister Gheit
Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit said he had a one-on-one meeting with Obama, in which President Obama told him that he was still a Muslim, the son of a Muslim father, the stepson of Muslim stepfather, that his half brothers in Kenya are Muslims, and that he was sympathetic towards the Muslim agenda.
While nothing Obama does or says is likely to really surprise me at this point (apart from something like “I’m cutting government spending by two-thirds, starting with social programs” or “I’m leading a fight to repeal the 16th Amendment”), it would seem unlikely that Obama would actually tell a head of state that he was a Muslim, since heads of state and other high government officials seem incapable of keeping secrets.
I’ve surfed around a little bit looking for more info on this tale, and so far I don’t seem to have found any actual quotes, just hearsay and rumors. But as rumors go, this one’s a dandy.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
I wasn’t aware that the Constitution made it illegal for a Muslim to be elected President.
Who said anything about it being illegal?
All it really means is that he has no cultural basis to comprehend the United States of America.
There were some Youtube clips of his reading from his book. He said he was a Muslim and would go with Islam “if the political winds blew that way” (or something similar).
His father was a Muslim, that makes him a Muslim. Why is this so hard for some people to understand? Whilst we is at it, a Certificate of Live Birth is a document that is attached to the Birth Certificate of any child brought into the US with the aim of permanent residency. Again, why is this so hard for some people to understand.
Huron? Why is your bot Barri ashamed of his religion? Lay it on us, leftard.
There’s another reason he wouldn’t say something like that – IIRC, if he swore to be a Muslim when young, and was guilty of practicing Christian religious rites later in his life, then it’s the right, and indeed duty, of any pious Muslim to kill him for deserting the religion.
Strictly speaking, that’s the case regardless. He was born to a Muslim father, which (according to some… both Muslims and non-Muslims) makes him a Muslim, and thus his claims of being a Christian are Very, Very Bad.
However, the other side of it is the concept of “Taqiyya,” which says that it’s perfectly fine for a Muslim to lie to a non-Muslim on certain matters. It could thus be argued that Obama-The-Secret-Muslim is well within the bounds of Taqiyya, as lies here helped put someone friendly to Muslim extremists and goals in a position of great power in the US.
Personally, my guess is that Obama’s religion is… the worship of Obama.
“Personally, my guess is that Obama’s religion is… the worship of Obama.” Which is not at all at odds with Islam. Look at all of the great “leaders” of Islam. They all worshiped themselves first, power over others second, gold, and material goods. God never entered into the equation.
“Taqiyya” as I understand it, doesn’t allow you to outright lie about things, but rather allows you to answer questions regarding your true faith in a evasive or non-detailed manner, letting the person who asked the question read into your reply what they may.
The death penalty for reverting to non-Islamic faith seems to particularly apply to Islamic converts who revert to their pre-Islamic faith after swearing to the new faith, rather than ones born in the faith.
For a real trip, read this little Islamic theological discussion about how you get to be a member of a non-related woman’s family by drinking her breast milk, so that she can interact with you on a day-to-day basis without wearing a veil:

I want to be both a member of Angelina Jolie’s and Pamela Anderson’s extended family, and I’ve got news for you…I’m not going to be satisfied with drinking their breast milk out of a glass.
Allah demands that it be done in the original form I think, and I’ll have none of this “Reformed Islam”. 😀
You can see where that “Taqiyya” concept came from BTW…if it didn’t exist, Sunni and Shia Muslims would be in a situation where they would both be required to kill the heretics as they made their pilgrimage to Mecca.
“Taqiyya” gave them a “don’t ask-don’t tell” way out of that.

Which is dissimilar from lying… how? And that is assuming your interpretation is accurate, which I don’t think it is.

So Ayaan Hirsi Ali can let go of her bodyguards now, yes? Because she was born in Islam, so there is no danger to her from the believers.
Where I ran into the “Taqiyya” concept was in a biography of Sir Richard Francis Burton.
Maybe it could be described as something like Bill Clinton did regarding Monica Lewinsky, in that you parse the question.
When asked if he had ever had sex with her, he replied “no”.
Technically, that was true, as the legal definition of sex involved him putting his penis in her vagina, which he did not do.
However, most people would consider oral sex to be at least some sort of sex, so although he wasn’t lying, he certainly was being misleading.
Let’s not even get started on that cigar routine, which I severely doubt The Prophet would have approved of. 😀
Regarding the Wikipedia article on Taqiyya, something similar exists in Judaism; although the eating of certain foods (such as pork) is prohibited, if you are in a situation where your only choice is either eating unkosher food or starving to death, it’s perfectly acceptable to eat unkosher food till you are in a situation where you have the option to get kosher food again.
Although lying is a sin, you can also lie if your life depends on it.
I don’t know what the case would be if someone asked you to renounce your Jewish faith or they would kill you – like happened in regard to Rabbi
Sabbatai Zevi when Sultan Mehmed IV told him that either he was going to convert to Islam or witness the true miracle of how his head and body could be in two different places at the same time, but at least it shows some understanding that taking things to their ultimate extreme can be irrational.
