Seems there is to be an episode of “Mad Men” in the upcoming season that is set in a North American Aviation office, sometime in the mid 1960’s. I provided several drawings and bits of artwork that may or may not appear on screen.

Note: “Mad Men” stars Christina Hendricks:

Everything I provided is at least roughly appropriate for the vague timeframe, though some might be a little “advanced.” A lot of what I provided has, to my knowledge, not been publicized before… so you might see some interesting stuff there. I’m hoping to hear back on what got used and how. Maybe get some photos or some such. The new season starts July 25, and this is supposed to be the 5th episode.

So if you are a fan of the show and want to make sure you have all the merchandizing goodies, then your best course of action right now is to buy ALL of my available aircraft and spacecraft drawings. You wouldn’t want to miss out, would you?

On a completely separate matter, if you are curious as to what “out of my league” means, it means this:

  1. Will she be doing wind tunnel testing of the Area Rule?

  2. She’s out of my area of interest, Scott. I like ’em smaller. She looks .. funny … unbalanced.

  3. Congratulations Scott. If you haven’t, you should consider consulting to hollywood on aerospace projects as a career. You have the specialized knowledge, it should just a matter of getting your name and skillset in front of the right people. I for one wouldn’t mind seeing them get it right.

  4. > you should consider consulting to hollywood on aerospace projects

Believe me, I’ve considered it. But I haven’t figured out how to actually *do* that. If there’s an application form or an employment agency that specializes in this sort of thing, i haven’t found it. Apart from “Man Conquers Space,” of course, but that’s quite a bit different from “Hollywood.”

I might need to finish the Sci-Fi Spaceship Design book first, I dunno.

  5. > She’s out of my area of interest

    To each their own.

Once was a time when I’d respond with something like “Good! More chance for me!” but time and experience has taught me that that ain’t so. The male population of the planet would have to get winnowed *way* down for that to be true.

  6. Your material is worthy of a series on one of the cable channels, for sure. It would be great to see quality CGI of many of these machines.

  7. “Good! More chance for me!”

That’s EXACTLY how I think of it. The unfortunate thing here is that I, sitting in Penny Lane in Richmond, Virginia, cannot say, “There’s this guy in Utah who’d love to meet you” and expect to get any respect.

I really like the idea of a series on a cable channel. I’d buy the DVD, too.

  8. Nice astrodomes!
The show that had a lot of aerospace artwork in the background was “I Dream Of Jeannie” due to its being set at NASA (although it made it look like NASA was run by the Air Force).

  9. She was way hot in Firefly. And she is a shorty, that is why she may appear out of balance, but thats OK, all the parts work well together!

  10. G-I-N-G-E-R…she may not have a soul.
Favorite aerospace ad campaign, from AW&ST: “F-15E Strike Eagle – Shoots Down What’s Up; Blows Up What’s Down.” 😉

  11. Congratulations Scott.
i hope they put you name in Closing credits
    they forgett that alot…

  12. She is certainly a woman of considerable talents… I don’t have the TV hooked up to anything, but I might have to find the DVD set somewhere.

  13. Well, THAT was depressing…

  14. Sweet fancy Moses…

  15. Since I don’t watch the show, I admit to being entirely clueless about Ms. Hendricks. However, I’m not dead, so I looked her up.

Turns out she is a size 12 and that is a matter of some controversy among the female population.

  16. Yeah; what would be the point of all the dieting if men dig a woman with some meat on her bones?
I can guarantee you it’s a lot more fun to take a woman out to dinner who will actually eat the expensive food you bought her rather than leaving around 3/4’s of it sitting on her plate because she “has to watch her weight”.
Women who have an appetite for food tend to have a appetite for fun, drink, and sex also…making them a lot more fun to be around than those beanpoles that show up on the covers of fashion magazines, like that toothpick with the switchblade from “Gossip Girl”.

  17. > … a lot more fun to be around than those beanpoles that show up on the covers of fashion magazines, like that toothpick with the switchblade from “Gossip Girl”.

Now, just imagine YoSaffBridge with the switchblade.

    I’ll be in my bunk.

  18. one of the things I’ve learned is women like that are “out of your league” only if you think they are.

the good looking ones go home alone a lot too because the common thought is “someone who looks like that must have someone waiting for them”

also, the ones wit ha “little extra” tend to actually have a brains and a personality too…for me the model-good-looking ones are interesting for about 5 minutes or until they open their mouth and let something stupid out, whichever comes first.

  19. > one of the things I’ve learned is women like that are “out of your league” only if you think they are.

And one of the things I’ve learned is “stereotypes exist for a reason.”

    > for me the model-good-looking ones are interesting for about 5 minutes or until they open their mouth and let something stupid out, whichever comes first.

I’ve known some incredible beauties who defied the “moron” stereotype. In fact, The One did so quite remarkably. But I’ve also known that those with both beauty *and* personalities have a wider selection of interested men to choose from. And those of us men *without* beauty or personaility are still pretty much screwed (and not in the good way).

  20. Yes, stereotypes exist for a reason. I’ve known one who had it all, and one who could have had it all. Both chose others because of money. Yes, stereotypes exist for a reason.

I have finally figured out that they need to be chased in order to support an instinctual drive: seeking a good mate so they can rear their young in a safe cave with extra mammoth meat. Since we’re beyond that now, and women tell me that they are self-actualizing and post-feminist, I’m giving them a chance to show me how self-actualizing and post-feminist they really are.

I really didn’t like Saffron at all. Not from the start.

  21. I’ve always liked gals with big curves. Ms. Hendricks looks great to me.

Glad to hear your work will be featured in the show, Scott. Well done.
