“Our job is basically to keep the boot on the neck of British Petroleum,” [Interior Secretary Ken ] Salazar said…

Awesome.

And here I though governments using boots to crush their enemies was an allusion typically reserved for second and third-world dictatorships.

If you want a vision of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face – forever.

  1. did you see where the times square bomber suspect was arrested by members of US special forces…not law enforcement?

    there’s your boot.

  2. The only mention I’ve been able to find of special forces is that he might have been caught in part because an Army spy plane was used to intercept his cell phone calls.

“The Joint Special Operations Command, which was run by Gen. Stanley McChrystal from 2003-2008, is reportedly allowed to operate on US soil. That’s a result of Presidential Decision Directive 25 (PDD-25), an executive order drafted by President Clinton on May 3, 1994. The complete text remains classified, however, “The full text of PDD-25 is reported to exempt the Joint Special Operations Command from the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 18USC Sec.1385, PL86-70, Sec. 17[d]. which makes it illegal for military and law enforcement to exercise jointly,” according to GlobalSecurity.org.”

an executive order can’t “exempt” someone from the law.

he could pardon someone after the fact..but he can’t just tell certain people “that law doesn’t apply to you”

why not just write one that exempts all the armed forces from posse comitatus and get it over with?

  4. Salazar has potential. A nice post-Obama career in being a warlord in some third-world country would appear to suit him perfectly. Apparently, this would be a good choice for whatever White House genius who let this one go public.

  5. Ok, so he’s threatening to watch closely the irresponsible company that’s causing the biggest oil spill since the Exxon Valdez which is going to cause untold damage to the enviroment (not to mention massive loss of employment) and that’s bad because… No, sorry, I don’t get it.

You see, there has been spills on other parts of the world and some people (me for instance) would have loved to hear such words from local officials. Maybe you should come to live to Spain, where in the past they have been more than willing to pay the cleaning costs with federal money.

On second though, maybe you shouldn’t. Here we have universal health care!

  6. > No, sorry, I don’t get it. … Maybe you should come to live to Spain

Spain? Wasn’t Spain controlled by the Fascists for something like 40 years, and by Socialists in recent years? if so, I guess that might explain the acceptance of the idea of government officials talking casually about keeping their boots on the necks of civilians and corporations.

People should not fear their governments. Governments should fear the people.

  7. “Maybe you should come to live to Spain, where in the past they have been more than willing to pay the cleaning costs with federal money.”

Come live in Spain? Spain, which is currently competing with Portugal over who is going to be the next domino to fall in the Euro pact? No thank you.

“Here we have universal health care!”

Yeah, just one of the many reasons you are about to topple financially. Idiot.
