High street giant Primark pulled padded bikini tops for seven-year-olds off its shelves this morning after children’s protection experts warned that they exploited youngsters.
The store had been selling £4 sets in a low-cut halterneck style with padding in the cups which meant girls from the age of seven looked as if they had breasts.
Padded bikinis for 7-year-olds?
Dude.
Weak.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
I registered long ago for the Daily Mail website, so I post comments on their articles. The question I posted today remains: in what society do the mothers buy their 7-year-old daughters padded bikinis? If the product exists, it exists to fill a need (see other comments on “free market”). Therefore, someone in a clothing manufacturing business felt the product would sell well enough to make a profit. What was the target culture?

I wonder if it’s targetting the parents or the kids. I have more difficulty imagining parents clamoring for this sort of thing than (appropriately) flat-chested little girls being made to feel ugly or something by a hyper-sexualized advertising/entertainment culture. I’ve even heard of plastic surgeons doing boob jobs on pre-pubescent girls.
Now, as much a fan of the female form as I am… that female form is supposed to come *after* puberty, damnit.
Someone on the relevant Fark.com thread pointed out that this sort of thing probably wouldn’t appeal to pedophiles, for reasons which make sense if you think about it. Of course, if you *do* think about it, you’re a perv and need to be locked up. So there.
The question remains: who would buy the things?
WTF!?!?!?
No, seriously……
WTF!?!?!?!?
