Photographed yesterday at “Bald Eagle Days” at the Quad City Expo Center. This little feller has a cuteness quotient that’s off the charts.
There were a number of other birds on display, including a peregrine falcon, a barn owl, a Golden Eagle and a Bald Eagle. When the staff started gathering up the Bald Eagle, it flapped its wings and got a bit theatrical… at which the screech owl perked up a tad.

You should get one of those as a pet…it would really baffle the cats. 🙂
I had a close encounter like with a trained Saker falcon which was employed for bird control. Watching it eat its meal of chicken strips was a pretty blunt reminder of how the real world works.

Imagine it _killing_ a chicken sometime. 🙂
Here’s a cute photo of a screech owl chick I came across today:

I didn’t realize they could elevate their “horns” like the one does in Scott’s photos. I wonder if that is just for display, or if it has something to do with shading their eyes when they are looking at something intently.
That looks like a rufous-morph Western Screech Owl, Megascops kennicottii.
Oh, that’s just adorable!
Thank you for showing us!

Not for long. They’d tangle.
And the cat would be goin’ “FUUUUUUUUUU….” 🙂
