Now available: a PDF copy of a 343 page Dornier flight handbook… “Vorlaufiges Flughandbuch Transportflugzeug Dornier Do 31 E1/E3,” dated 1 August 1969. Scanned in full color from an actual copy. Contains just about everything you need to know to fly the Do 31 VTOL transport aircraft… assuming you actually *have* a Do 31 lying around, and you read German. Includes engine design details and operations; instrument panel layouts; control, hydraulic and electrical system schematics; low-speed reaction control system details; landing gear details; takeoff performance, landing performance, fuel consumption… the whole bit. A whole lot of information regarding an aircraft for which there’s typically not a whole lot of information readily available.

The manual comes in two PDF files, each about 25 megabytes (split apart to make downloading easier and more reliable) .

Air Doc 16 can be downloaded for $6.50.

  1. The Do 31 manual is a magnificent find!

Would it make a matched set to have it beside the Bf-110 adoc2?

  2. Would it make a matched set to have it beside the Bf-110 adoc2?

Well, not exactly… there’s not a lot of relationship between the Bf-110 and the Do 31 apart from being German aircraft.

    Scratch that.

Yes. Yes, it would. Anyone interested even slightly in aviation history would have to be either insane or a masochist to not have these two documents side-by-side. Having the both of them will improve your chances of winning the lottery, make you more attractive to the opposite sex (or the same sex if that’s your preference), will make you wash cleaner, smell better and improve your chances of salvation into the afterlife of your choice.

  3. I’d say that the two are essential for anyone interested in GERMAN aviation history. My interest is the early X-planes, and I have the X-15 manual and the the Bell D-171 papers. Already, my lottery winnings are up ($6 since buying the two). I’ve bathed since I bought the two, and the lady in my life is now less unwilling to recognize that I exist. So most of your claims are quite correct, Scott. (I’ll send e-mail when I learn about the afterlife.)

Life is all about making the right relationships.
