Tak is fantastically skilled at shutting her eyes jsut as the flash goes off. In short… I’ve *never* taken a shot of her with her eyes open with a flash. There must be some precursor – either sound or light – that she recognizes. But without a flash, her eyes stay open just fine.

before your camera takes a picture, some cameras have a flashing red light that strobes right before you take the pic, i always thought it was for the autofocus or to get rid of red-eye
