From the Minneapolis Star Tribune:
Garcia says the employee calmly asked him to remove the mask and the man said, “This is a robbery, don’t you know that?”
When the man grabbed the cash register, the clerk hit the man once with a hammer. Then the clerk threw the hammer at the man, pulled out a second one and chased the man away. The man dropped the cash register and fled on foot.
And of course, any proper use of a hammer in repelling a criminal is approved by:

I’ll look for the follow up “Would be robber robbed of register but wins $10 million in law suit for psychological trauma.”
What exact mythological incident is supposed to be portrayed in the Thor painting? Are those supposed to be Frost Giants, his eternal enemy?
I hope the clerk wasn’t using one of those evil “Assult Hammers” equipped with an extra-deadly waffle head and aftermarket rubberized grip. I sense new legislation on the horizion.
> What exact mythological incident…
Not sure if it’s supposed to represent a specific incident. It’s the painting “Tors strid med jättarne,” or “Thors Battle with the Giants,” by Mårten Eskil Winge, 1872. Since Thor lay a hammery beatdown on the Jotun in several different tales, it’s probably just a generic. It’s a pity that the artist didn’t get Thor’s look right.
