It would seem that much of the Arab world has a very different attitude towards women in public than the modern world does… namely, that a woman just going about her day may be freely harassed. And not “harassed” in the modern American sense of “he looked at me” or “he spoke to me,” but harassed as in “he followed me, grabbed me and things got worse from there.” See: Lara Logan.

However, even though Egypt has gone from bad to worse with the transition from dictatorship to Islamocracy, there appear to be a few in the country who would rather not see Egypt slide *entirely* into the lowest cesspits of human degradation.

Vigilantes Spray-Paint Sexual Harassers In Cairo

The young vigilantes wear yellow vests as they gather in Cairo’s Tahrir Square, the focal point of last year’s revolution. They carry cans of spray paint, but none is a graffiti artist.

They are part of the new campaign called “Estargel!” or “Be a Man.” Emblazoned on the back of their vests are the words “Harassment Prevention.” The spray paint is used to tag grabby young men and send them on their way, marked as harassers. … “they gave themselves the right to molest the female, we gave ourselves the right to molest him — the molester.”
