Neat!

Clergyman says church has vanished

The Church of Christ’s Resurrection, in the central Russian village of Komarovo, was built in 1809 but in early October someone took it away brick by brick, Father Vitaly a spokesman for the local Russian Orthodox Church, told Reuters.

Now that’s just ballsy. And it’s certainly a step up from the college prank of disassembling a car and reassembling it inside someone’s living room.

Ah, the early 1960’s. When the future looked bright, the atom was our friend, when planes were only getting faster, and when Marxist gun-grabbers were opposed, not elected President. In that climate, Convair studied several derivatives of their B-58 “Hustler” bomber to serve as supersonic transports, both for military and civilian roles. I’m currently working on an article for the next issue of APR dealing with these concepts. Also hoping to have some all-new color artwork prepared for this article.

Peter Hitchens says it all.

The swooning frenzy over the choice of Barack Obama as President of the United States must be one of the most absurd waves of self-deception and swirling fantasy ever to sweep through an advanced civilisation. At least Mandela-worship – its nearest equivalent – is focused on a man who actually did something.

I really don’t see how the Obama devotees can ever in future mock the Moonies, the Scientologists or people who claim to have been abducted in flying saucers. This is a cult like the one which grew up around Princess Diana, bereft of reason and hostile to facts.

They grasped the real significance of this moment. They knew it meant that America had finally switched sides in a global cultural war. Forget the Cold War, or even the Iraq War. The United States, having for the most part a deeply conservative people, had until now just about stood out against many of the mistakes which have ruined so much of the rest of the world.

Suspicious of welfare addiction, feeble justice and high taxes, totally committed to preserving its own national sovereignty, unabashedly Christian in a world part secular and part Muslim, suspicious of the Great Global Warming panic, it was unique.

These strengths had been fading for some time, mainly due to poorly controlled mass immigration and to the march of political correctness. They had also been weakened by the failure of America’s conservative party – the Republicans – to fight on the cultural and moral fronts.

They preferred to posture on the world stage. Scared of confronting Left-wing teachers and sexual revolutionaries at home, they could order soldiers to be brave on their behalf in far-off deserts. And now the US, like Britain before it, has begun the long slow descent into the Third World. How sad. Where now is our last best hope on Earth?

Damn. Read the whole thing.

According to The One’s website:

Address Gun Violence in Cities: As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn’t have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.

So, let’s see:

1: Tiahrt Amendment. According to Wikipedia:

Since its passage in 2003 as an amendment to an appropriations bill, the Amendment has forbidden the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives *(ATF) from releasing information from its firearms trace database to anyone other than a law enforcement agency or prosecutor in connection with a criminal investigation, and any data so released is deemed inadmissible in a civil lawsuit.[6] The mayors contend that the Amendment restricts access of cities and law enforcement to gun trace data, hindering municipal police departments’ ability to track down sellers of illegal guns.[7] Mayor Bloomberg has called the Amendment “an insult to the thousands of police officers that face the threat of illegal guns.”[8]

In July, 2007, after the House Appropriations Committee rebuffed attempts to repeal the amendment, the Senate Appropriations Committee went further, approving a bill that, according to the New York Times, “threatens law enforcement officials with prison time for using gun tracing data beyond a specific investigation, say, for identifying and targeting trafficking patterns.”

Obama wants to make it easier for the government to track law-abiding citizens and their legal activities.

2: commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment. Translation: stomping on the Second Amendment and gun owners, while at the same time telling them to enjoy and appreciate it. See “rapist” for further examples.

3:  closing the gun show loophole.  The “gun show loophole” is every bit as real as the “used book store loophole.”

4: making guns in this country childproof. Ho-lee shit. “Childproof?” This means they want to do nationally what the local D.C government unConstitutionally did locally… make guns incapable of being used for self-defense.

5: making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent. Oddly, the Assault Weapons Ban did not ban assault weapons. Weapons capable of being fired fully automatically – a requirement to be an “assault weapon” – have been illegal since the 1930’s. The AWB was just a way to annoy the hell out of gun owners.

<>I say we begin impeachment proceedings *now.*  Obama/Biden are announcing their intent to crap all over the Constitution. That would be “high crimes and misdemeanors.”

Even though I’ve recently lost “Bitey,” the supply of semi-friendly farm cats is hardly depleted around here. And even though there is certainly an ecosystem full of varmints for the cats to gnaw upon (rodents, snakes and birds), they are always looking for food. And since I know the value of keeping on good terms with the local anti-vermin patrol, I always keep some cat food ready at hand to dole out to ’em.

mooches.jpg
(note: the white cat in this photo is *not* Bitey, but one of her half-brothers. When I pulled in the garage after coming home from the vet, as I was pulling Bitey’s cardboard box out of the car, this near-perfect clone came dashing out of the weeds and prit near gave me a heart attack.)
However, cat food, oddly, is not something that the government hands out for free. Cat food costs money. So if you’d like to help the cause – which also will have to include getting them vaccinated and fixed, otherwise I’ll be swamped with an army of sick kitties – please go here and donate.

For just pennies a day you can feed the cute little kitties. Only you can prevent them from starving. Only a monster wouldn’t help keep the kitties from starving. You’re not a monster… are you???

Guess what: Neither Christian… nor American. British, and apparently getting their way in science classrooms.

One in three teachers believe that creationism should be taught in school science lessons. Why? It’s not because they’ve developed a sudden respect for fundamentalist Christian interpretations of the Bible. It’s because devout Muslim pupils – and their parents – regard Darwin’s teachings as blasphemous. The science of evolution contradicts a literal reading of the Koran, just as it contradicts the seven-day creation narrative of Genesis. The difference is that most devout Muslims – more than 90 per cent worldwide – accept Islam’s account of creation as the simple truth, whereas in Britain only a small minority of churchgoers are creationists.

Heh. The money lines:

This is a battle that the educational establishment just isn’t prepared for. Guardian readers associate creationism with US Republicans, not ethnic minorities. Now they face a painful dilemma: should they fight to exclude the creationist viewpoint from science lessons, risking accusations of Islamophobia from angry parents, or should they embrace pseudoscience in the name of cultural diversity? It’s a tough one.

Actually, no, it’s not a tough one. Keep the gibberish out of science classes. Why is this tough? Man up, Nanny State. Y’all thought it was fun to point and laugh at midwestern American evangelicals and their funny beliefs. Don’t by hypocrites. Point and laugh at the goobers in your midst. Don;t let them get their way, when their way is counter to logic, reason, evidence and good sense.

Maybe now that Bush will soon be gone, and y’all won’t be able to point and laugh at Obama, perhaps it’ll be time to clear your own rickety house.

I’ve largely ignored this over the past three months, but I recently finished it up. There are some areas where I’m definitely *not* happy with the contouring… however, a few minutes with some sandpaper, and it’ll be just about perfect. The landing gear, cockpit and weapons bays are currently blank; they will be patched together with Real World modeling. Surface details will also have to wait until the parts are printed out.

Some parts of this went together like a breeze, others (especially forward fuselage contouring, and the inlet in particular) were, and remain, a pain in the ass. But for a first effort with this NURBS modeling program, it ain’t too bad, I think. The physical model will be in 1/72, giving it a span of about 11.8 inches.

Another ultra-fun news item from the Daily Mail:

This was the gruesome moment an illegal immigrant who murdered his neighbour was captured on bus CCTV carrying his victim’s head in a bag.

Mohamed Boudjenane had murdered Lakhdar Ouyahia two days earlier, just hours after he had raped a Phillipino woman in his flat.

The 45-year-old Algerian was obsessed with the woman and shaved off her hair after assaulting her.

Here’s what makes the story hilarious:

He had a failed asylum bid in 1998 but remained in the country claiming benefits after his appeal was turned down, the court heard.

That’s hot.

According to the Daily Mail, the nitwitted bureaucrats in charge of the EU are now demanding warning labels on packages that are bigger than the packages themselves:

The problem stems from the fact that Brussels says nutrition information should be printed in large clear font at least 3mm tall so shoppers can see clearly the amount of calories, salt, saturated fat and sugar in what they are buying.

EU experts insist only large print will help shoppers choose healthy products and so prevent the rising tide of obesity and associated ill health.

This would be the right spot to insert a gag showing how truth-in-advertising laws like this would mean that pro-Obama posters would have to be ten feet tall in order to accomodate all the warnings about “Communism may be bad for your health.”
