First up, there’s this insanity:

Adults Who Still Drink Milk: Are You Okay?

Unless you’re a hungry baby, drinking milk on its own is unsettling behaviour.’

The British author tries to argue that milk is inappropriate for adults. The author only succeeds in demonstrating that she’s some kind of deviant perv. And as it turns out, the author looks pretty much like you’d expect she would. She seems about one face tat away from grabbing a rifle and going to a rooftop near a parade.

And then there’s this, also out of Britain:

Supermarkets put security tags on cheese blocks as stores tackle shoplifting amid soaring food costs

Ummm… are you ok, Britain? Things seem kinda wrong over yonder.

The planetary geopolitical situation seems to be sliding towards that “hell in a handbasket” phase. If things get really bad, international commerce could grind to a halt. Economically that is of course bad… but if you are in a place that imports a lot of your food, or imports the fertilizer and tools and fuel and whatnot you need to grow your food, things could get *really* bad. This sort of thing has happened before, of course. The usual result was regional famine. But now… thanks to modern agriculture and transport, there are vast numbers of people living where food will suddenly vanish. This, one would immediately think, would lead to *astonishing* local famines. But now, as well as having far more people we have far more transport systems. So those starving millions, or indeed billions, will try to leave for greener pastures. But in a planetary collapse situation, greener pastures won’t be able to support all that many people. Having millions of starving migrants swarming your borders means not only less food for your own people, it’ll mean less food *in* *total,* as the refugees, if they come in large enough numbers, will set upon the fields like locusts, and not only consume what’s there, they’ll trash the ability to grow more.

The obvious answer: walls, guns and a bit of a policy shift where it comes to open doors.

EDIT: Hmmm. Weirdly, the video was privated. Oh well….

According to this, Britain (and a fair chunk of the rest of Europe) is kinda up the creek. Right now they are insanely allowing a million “migrants” a year to come in, set up shop and start drawing off the dole and demanding yet more. If things go bad, it would behoove the Brits to not only stop immigration, but to encourage – as aggressively and energetically as necessary – that a few million recent immigrants explore career opportunities in other lands. other lands that won’t have them either.

And then… the Chinese will probably slap together biological warfare systems: insects, bacteria, virus, whatever, that trashes all the rice that doesn’t have a particular gene sequence that Chinese rice just happens to have. It would probably be a really good idea for the CIA and every other intelligence service on the planet to sneak out a lot of samples of Chinese rice and Russian wheat and keep a constant surveillance on any sudden change in their DNA.

Biden Sold a Million Barrels From US Strategic Petroleum Reserve to China-Owned Gas Giant

At a time when gasoline is intensely expensive, selling gas to a foreign adversary seems a little weird. but then, there’s this “huh” detail…

Biden’s Energy Department in April announced the sale of 950,000 Strategic Petroleum Reserve barrels to Unipec, the trading arm of the China Petrochemical Corporation. That company, which is commonly known as Sinopec, is wholly owned by the Chinese government. …  Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, is tied to Sinopec. In 2015, a private equity firm he cofounded bought a $1.7 billion stake in Sinopec Marketing. Sinopec went on to enter negotiations to purchase Gazprom in March, one month after the Biden administration sanctioned the Russian gas giant.

Huh.

HUH.

I kinda wonder who this would have gone over had it been Trumps kid…

Two days after a looney bugman decided to shoot up an Independence Day parade, someone went and kerploded the Georgia Guidestones. If you don’t know what those were…  well, read up on ’em and marvel at the weirdness.

The Georgia Guidestones demolished after explosion ‘destroyed’ portion, GBI says

The lesson to be drawn:

And of course…

Not related apart from “what THE HELL is this noise?” The downfall of new York City continues apace as an old man (ah, crap, he’s younger’n *me*) is sent to jail because he defended himself against a violent assault:

New York City: not even once.

Not lovin’ it! Fed-up Russians are served MOLDY burgers in their replacement McDonald’s restaurants after the chain left the country due to the invasion of Ukraine

Whoops.

The photos there are *not* appetizing. Of course it’s impossible to say that they are legit. All the photos there are closeups of moldy buns and insect legs in burgers and fries… none at least in that article show the food actually in context of being within the former McDonalds restaurants. The bug legs could be added in for effect; the burgers might be old. But it could all be honest reporting, too.

You wouldn’t think it would be *that* hard to maintain standards when you have the same facilities, presumably the same supply chain and presumably much the same staff. But I guess here we are.

Courtesy Reddit:

My mom held a graduation party today and no one came.

Could easily be a hoax-post… perhaps the party was scheduled at 6PM, and this photo was taken at 5. Or it could be legit. In any event, for a lot of people, this sort of thing strikes a nerve:

The whole thread is *full* of this sort of thing…

My mom always said I couldn’t have bday parties because my bday is during winter break. I never questioned it. Then I realized that I had no friends and was bullied. My mom wasn’t going to humiliate me like that and wasn’t going to spend money on bullies. I had 30 kids in my class k-12, so bullying was very…targeted and specific.

When my youngest had her 7th birthday we invited her class to a party at the children’s museum. Lots of interactive things to do there…the place was like an indoor physics playground.

Nobody came. We were heartbroken. Sure, she would still have fun. But it was sad.

A couple visiting from England spotted what was happening. Their girl spent the whole time with ours, and they even bought her a birthday present from the gift shop.

I still think about that act of kindness.

I’m near retirement age and never had a birthday party in my entire life. Family was dirt poor when I was a kid, as an adult it’s a day that’s just impossible for people to attend. Always wondered what it was like for y’all.

It happens to adults too. I invited a bunch of “friends” and coworkers to a bar for my birthday. I sat there drinking alone for two hours before I walked home crying. Didn’t even get a happy birthday last year from anyone except my mom and aunt.

We took COVID seriously and during the summer of 2020 our daughter turned 4. We didn’t have a party, but we invited all of our family to a zoom meeting to sing her happy birthday.

Not a single member of my family joined the call. I tried my best to keep my composure but I ended up crying in the bathroom after we cleaned up. They’re always on their phones and tablets anyway. There was no reason they couldn’t pop in for thirty seconds on a Saturday to sing happy birthday. I’m tearing up just thinking about it.

So July 4 gave the media a new obsession… a mass shooting in Highland Park Illinois, just north of Chicago. Somewhat unusually, the shooter has been caught alive and uninjured, so this time they’ll at least be able to ask him why he did it. But I get the feeling that the answer will be something along the lines of God told him to do it by speaking through the neighbors dog. He’s got “crazy” written all over his face.

Inside the Sick Posts of July 4 Massacre ‘Person of Interest’

As yet there doesn’t seem to be a lot political there, just a bunch of random gibberish. He photographed himself wearing a Trump flag as a cape; he liked Biden posts. But the random gibberish comes off as someone whom the FBI and/or local cops should have been aware of. I suspect we’ll soon hear – quietly – that he was on the police radar, and that he was on psychiatric meds of some kind.

Interesting that just when the hoplophobes need to drum up fear of guns, the whackjobs come out of the woodwork to oblige.

Long ago I took a cruise to Alaska. it was a reasonably classy affair; at the very least, no drunken brawls at 5AM that required the Coast Guard to show up and escort the ship. I guess that trip just wasn’t as culturally enriched as it could have been.

Seems to me incidents like could actually be useful: if you’re in international waters and people start acting like uncivilized savages… the Coast Guard shows up, takes said passengers, and promptly deports them to Liberia or London or some such third world hellhole. They’ll doubtless be happier there, and we’ll doubtless be happier here.
