HUGHES PROTOTYPE MODEL XV-9A HOT CYCLE HELICOPTER

From estate of late military helicopter test pilot and holder of Sikorsky built helicopter speed record comes this unique-one of a kind- sturdy resin model on heavy aircraft grade aluminum plinth, with terrain finish. Please check out enclosed link showing the actual prototype. I believe only one was ever built and it was basically a patchwork piece assembled with parts from other military aircraft. The “Hot Cycle” technology did not pan out and the aircraft was never put into production. This model purchased from test pilot’s son in Southern California, shows an obviously different design in the rotor and tail structure as well as the placement of the engines. Therefore my one of a kind claim. I will let my pictures do the talking, should you need more………no problem…I will need your email address included with request. The piece will weigh 11 lbs including packaging and will be disassembled for safety in transit. The plinth and arm are the heaviest parts of the unit.

———-

Note… this is *not* a model of the XV-9. That was a helicopter that actually flew, using the “Hot Cycle” system… turbojet exhaust was ducted through the central into the hollow mast, through the hub, and down ducts through the rotors to nozzles at the tips. This would spin the rotors without the need for a direct mechanical drive, eliminating most of the torque that conventional helicopter drives produce – and thus eliminating the need for a tail rotor. While in development, Hughes engineers had the idea that an advanced application of the Hot Cycle system would be to spin up three-bladed “Y-Wings,” which could, once the vehicle was airborne and moving forward at a good clip, stop their rotation and be fixed in place as wings. This would drastically reduce drag and increase high-speed efficiency. So they drew up a series of “Y-Wing” vehicles… one of which is currently being auctioned on eBay, seen above. Numerous variations on the concept were designed, with varying ratios of “rotor size” to “hub size,” but all were meant to be high-speed aircraft that could take off and land vertically in the manner of a helicopter. Unfortunately, the XV-9 itself, with otherwise normal helicopter rotors, was a fuel hog, as well as loud. The Y-Wing in hover would have burned through fuel like it was throwing it overboard.

RARE BOEING JOINT STRIKE FIGHTER DESK MODEL PROTOTYPE!

Here is a S-U-P-E-R and I really do mean super RARE desk top model of the never produced Boeing JSF Joint Strike Fighter! What makes this one rare? This 1:48 scale desk top model was not made from a kit, and not a mass produced factory made model, no. This is a urethane, hand made prototype made in the Boeing model shop. It comes in it’s original Boeing box, and did I mention how scarce this type of model is? This is the only one, and is being offered here at NO reserve! I had to seriously pry this out of friends collection recently by trading three of my models for this one rarity.

An eBay auction for a 1990 Mercedes-Benz E-Class 2.6.

Owner’s Belief: he’s a descendant of Roman Emperors, and just as well Jesus Christ (what’s that worth?!)
He’s written over 180 reasons why he thinks this is true (he’ll provide a copy – over nine pages hand written – to you with your nonrefundable deposit of at least 25% towards the purchase of the vehicle, and thus subsequent agreement hereto of 2% royalties of Gross Sales Revenue, assumable-indefinitely-transferal, to the Owner herein in the event of authorized or unauthorized publication). Come on… Muhammad has descendants… it’s not that big of a deal. And yes, the owner thanks the Roman Catholic Church for keeping Christ’s descendants protected through the obliteration veil (how would you treat Jesus Christ’s children? In effect through Jesus Christ’s teaching, we’re all God’s children).

SERIOUS OFFERS ONLY
Dear blessed Millionaire: just think of this purchase as giving back to God’s children and works as a form of tithing. The owner promises to put the money to good use (Real Estate Development blessed in Jesus Christ’s name).

Sure. Why not? Let me check my wallet. I’m sure the collectors value for a car driven by the descendant of Christ aught to be pretty good.

An old auction, long over:

Grumman Design 698 Type A VSTOL – solid stunning detail

<>Unique desktop model of the Grumman 698 VTOL. This model is very rare (less than 12 ever made) and was owned by the late Robert Kress. The model was made by Grumman in Grumman’s own model shop.

To promote the tilt-fan concept, a radio-controlled model was flown for many audiences of governmental and Industrial representatives. The demonstration team was known as the “Baron von Kress flying circus”.

Airplane Lockheed Prototype Concept Desk Display Model

We offer for auction a rare one off prototype model made by Lockheed from around the late 1950’s or early 1960’s.  This model is made from painted wood, it has a 22″ wingspan & is approx. 16″ long.  The propeller nose cones are aluminum & it has a wooden base with a slightly rusted steel support stem. There is a bronze plaque on the base that reads ” GL 136 B-1 Assault Transport Lockheed Aircraft Corp. Georgia Division Marietta Georgia” I think this was a proposal & never built, I cannot find any information about this aircraft.  The model comes in it’s original wooden carrying case.  The model when we found it was dirty, it also had some surface paint cracks were the tip tanks were mounted to the wings & some other areas.  The markings which seemed to be hand painted were smudged in a couple of spots & a number of the prop blades were detached. We gave this model to a master model maker that made similar model for the airlines & the military.  He cleaned it up & touched up the areas needing work. This was not a major job & it is almost impossible to see any restoration. This is a beautiful professional design model & one of a kind model.  The wooden carrying case measures approx. 28″ x 20″ x 12″ & is quite heavy.

Less than a day left as of this writing.

Well that’s… huh. Exactly the same thing as the *last* eBay item I posted. What are the odds that two of the very same, extremely obscure display models of the 1961 General Dynamics M-1 lunar spacecraft would come up at the same time (and listed with the exact same title with the same wrong year)?

FROM AN OLD TEXAS ESTATE, UP FOR AUCTION: back in the mid- 70-S I purchased this hand built scratch model of a lunar take off vehicle by General Dynamics Corp, made sometime circa mid 1960s. Created for the department heads and certain persons directly involved with this particular aspect of this particular space program. Not ever offered for public or private sale, Wood and aluminum, this is not your standard plastic desk model. Approx. H: 18.5″ . The approx. dia: 4.75″. There is some normal wear and some light paint flaking as shown, BUT OVERALL THIS IS A GREAT MODEL, and one not seen very often on the open market .it is indeed a rare item , It comes apart and each part will be wrapped seperate and shipped to the winner.( PLEASE SEE PICTURES ). The item is being listing with no reserve.

I WAS IN THE U.S. A.F. I HAVE VERY LITTLE DIRECT INFORMATION ON THIS SPACE SHIP MODEL EXCEPT FROM THE INTERNET AND THERE IS A SMALL LABEL ATTACHED TO THE THE WOODEN BASE OF THE MODEL THAT READS , CONVAIR (ASTRONAUTICS) DIVISION, General Dynamics corporation, AVCO CORPORATION RESEARCH & ADVANCE DEVELOPMENT. THE MODEL HAS BEEN IN MY SHOW CASE SINCE I MADE IT’S PURCHASE.

As I write this, it’s currently sitting un-bidded-on at $399. Given that the other one sold for a tidy $1,025, maybe someone will get lucky and get it cheap.

I’ve looked at the chips in the paint and smudges, and these are two different models. The bases have different plaques on them. They come from two different sellers in two different (but nearby) states.

Huh.

An early Apollo concept. At this writing, bidding stands at $739.00.

This auction is for: an in house hand built scratch model of a lunar take off vehicle by General Dynamics Corp, made sometime circa mid 1960s. Created only for the people directly involved with this particular aspect of this particular space program. Not offered for public or private sale, ever. Wood and aluminum, this is not your standard plastic desk model. Approx. H: 18.5″, with the base 1/2″. The approx. dia: 4.75″. There are some dings as shown, but overall this is a great model, and one not seen on the market much, if ever. It comes apart as shown in one of the pictures, and this is how it will be shipped to the winner. I am listing this with no reserve.

UPDATE: This is very likely an Apollo utilizing the M-2 re-entry vehicle, from Convair’s 1961 study (see comments). I’ve seen *this* design numerous times… but never in model form, always in cutaway diagram form.

Again with the “Nasa…”

Edit: Auction NOT over, highest bid of $510.00 (didn’t make reserve).

Here’s a lovely old contractor model set from the Apollo Program. Not a Topping Model or a PacMin Model either. This really consists of three seperate models: The CSM or Command and Service Module, the Resource Module, and the two-part Laboratory / Habitation Module. The Command Module is one piece with the Service Module, and does not come off. There is not much I could find out about the Apollo Extension System, except that it never flew in this form and morphed into Skylab eventually…so this is an interesting picture of might of have been. Judging by my careful measuring and computing, this set is in the 1/40th scale. The CSM and the LAB modules are HEAVY. I would say these are made of some sort fo heavy resin and metal with plastic(?) elements. ..it looks like there is no damage, except for some fading on some of the decals, and some of the fuel tanks look like they have maybe been re-glued at one time or another. Some yellowing here and there…but overall, in amazing shape for something they were cooking up over 40 years ago. The CSM slides down on a brass post from the base, and the two other modules have a center female dock for a pin at the top of the CSM. There is a small cone that covers the tip-top, which was a lucky find in and of itself. The pictures really dont do this set justice…Nasa made these for presentation purposes and show and tell, and were not intended for ownership by the general public.
