The past couple days have been reasonably apocalyptic out here in rural Utah. A wildfire broke out Wednesday morning west of Plymouth, Utah (last I heard it was “human caused,” but no definition further than that), maybe twenty or so miles north of here. As Wednesday progressed I watched the plume of smoke get bigger and bigger, until later in the afternoon I drove off to go take a look. After nightfall the smoke cloud continued to progress, so that by Thursday 6:30 AM I woke up not being able to see my neighbors house. The wind shifted a bit and the air cleared some, but the smell of fire remains. This has done my lungs no good. So far, at least, no bronchitis has yet broken out, but wow do I have a headache.

I’ve taken a number of photos that might be of interest.

Two photos taken early 8/5 showing how a light down the way is scattered off the junk in the air. It’s got that “starry wisdom/gateway to somewhere you don’t want there to be a gateway to” look going on.

So yesterday I was on the road at about 9 AM when I noticed that the power lines were smoking or steaming or something. I didn’t have a good camera with me, just my phone, and it did a miserable job of taking pictures of the phenomenon, but you can kinda see it. It wasn’t a brief event, but lasted for at least several minutes, and was occurring along several miles of lines. I assume it is the result of some interplay of sunlight, humidity and the power going through the lines, causing water vapor in the air to condense around the lines… or something.

So last night around midnight I dragged the garbage can out to the road for pickup this morning.  I swept the area with my flashlight, on the lookout for things like coyotes and wild dogs and raccoons and shoggoths and socialists and other such rabid monsters, but only found one cat. This I took as a pleasant surprise, given the dearth of cats around here the last few years. He’s a juvenile siamese-patterned cat, and was *reasonably* friendly: he came to within about 4 feet when I called to him, and didn’t overly object as I accompanied him as he hunted the wheat for mice and such. He was.n’t interested in letting me pet him, so I went about my business

This evening I had a rare visit from Junior, who’s looking rather the worse for wear… pretty skinny. He wants *nothing* to do with me, though he will of course eat free food when available.

Tonight around midnight I went out again to check the weather and look at the stars; the sky kept flashing from lightning so I hoped there’d be a show (there wasn’t, sadly… the lightning was much too far away). But I saw the pseudo-siamese from last night, and realized that he was a she, and that she had at least three kittens… one all-black, two more siamese-colored. One of the siamese skittered off and didn’t come back, but the other two were reasonably brave. Mom there is barely bigger than her kittens.

While I was out there watching the cats I heard a nearby rustling sound in a tree near where the one kitten had skittered off. I figured it was the kitten coming back… but it was actually a full grown racoon. I don’t know if it threatened the kitten (or maybe even got it), but lil’ mommacat wasn’t having it, and the two rumbled. And even though the racoon outmassed the cat by several times, I’m happy to report that she successfully drove off the racoon. It was a short battle, but in the end the racoon hightailed it for the tree and the cat stood there hissing at it.

Close up terrible photos of Raedthinn, tongue slightly protruding.  Common occurrence since his dental damage. Often it sticks out quite a bit more than this, but getting even *these* crappy shots was sheer luck. He sees a camera come out, he  gets mad.

Flipping through the channels, I stumbled across this listing. Oddly, it didn’t seem appealing.

And because why not, here’s a crappy photo of the moon rising over the mountains earlier. Been here more than a dozen years and the rise of a full moon over the mountains remains a hell of a sight.

Ummm… something or other about this image seems… I dunno, “disturbing.”

The full photo reminds me of something, but for the life of me I can’t recall what.

Anyway, I’ve found my candidate of choice for this election cycle:

A few days ago I stopped by the Cutler Marina and saw a creature in the water. Clearly this was some sort of crypto-beast… maybe a pliosaur, maybe an aquatic sasquatch, probably alien. One of the photos shows an spherical flying object… most likely an alien mothership. Alert the media!

Now I’m off to write a 400-page screed to Alex Jones and begin campaigning for Bernie Sanders.
