Gee, I wish I had a high resolution version of this painting created at Bell Aircraft circa 1960 illustrating the D188A VTOL strike fighter being maintained…

  1. And why is such a fine image not currently for sale?

  2. I still think that’s too many engines to put into something of that size, and the aircraft would have been a maintenance headache.
Yak-38’s had only three engines, and they had such frequent accidents that the pilots used to feign illness to avoid flying them, even in peacetime*
Once you saw the Harrier, all of our and the Soviet’s VTOL ideas looked pretty clunky.

    * They sent some to Afghanistan and found out the hard way that strike aircraft designed to take off of ships don’t work well at high altitudes.

  3. When I can, I will get a few prints made of it at different sizes and see how they look.

  4. Sweet graphic — looks like the box art for the kit!
