… the pastor insisted that the Koran torching to be held on Saturday aimed “to remember those who were brutally murdered on September 11th” and to send a warning “to the radical element of Islam”.
They may both be nuts, but only one of ’em has taken it as far as people-killin’. So long as the pastor bought his copies of Koran all legal-like, it’s his right to do with them as he pleases… including burning them.
Is it rude and insensitive? yeah.
You know what else is rude an insensitive? Hmmm, let me think…

Michael? Muslims routinely hold huge rallies at which they burn bibles and call for all non-Muslims to be killed, so Christians can burn Qur’ans with impunity.
If he were doing it because he believed the book should be banned or censored, then I would have a moral issue with it. Since he is only burning one copy in a symbolic gesture, my only real concerns are tactical. And to tell the truth, I think the world needs to see what happens when you insult Muslims. I think stuff like this is important because it shows Muslims’ true colors. Christians would hate it if you burned the bible, but they wouldn’t burn you in effigy. You wouldn’t be afraid of violence. The only really legit reason to stop this is if Petraeus is right and it could put the troops in danger, and even then… what are they over there for, if not to defend America’s freedoms?
It may be that there’s really nothing happening here. The only Muslim I ever knew personally told me that the Koran has to be read in Arabic or it’s not being read. This was confirmed by my ex-brother-in-law, who teaches Middle Eastern politics. It was also confirmed by a chap who studies the Muslims for the British government.
So what is being burned in NOT a “real” Koran, but a summary, paraphrase, or poor replica of the real thing. It could be that “true” Muslims might regard the burning as a childish act of the ignorant. (Odds are they’ll get pissed off and want to hurt someone. I have never heard anything from anyone to lead me to think that Islam now accepts or tolerates anything other than Islam.)
Try even drawing a picture of Muhammed, for crying out loud.
Full disclosure: I am an atheist. I don’t care about either religion. What I do care about is natural rights. The natural right in play here is speech. Either one of them is free to burn Bibles OR Korans as long as the Bibles and Korans in question are the property of the person doing the burning, it is protected speech.
If some equally insane Muslims decide to burn Bibles, I’m not gonna be sympathetic toward any complaints from Jones.
It would be a blessing if religious warfare would sticks to duelng bonfires of the bibles.
Nothing to worry about, Islam is a “Religion of Peace”!
terry jones and osama ben laden two side of same medal
a medal called mad religious fanaticism…

The point is that Muslims have the right to burn Bibles and Christians have the right to burn Qur’ans. Equality, ain’t it a bitch!
Burn the Beatles records! How dare that uppity Limey say his band is ‘More popular than Jesus!’. Oops I must have dozed off, for say 50 years!
You can’t understand fundamentalism
without understanding the word “fundament.”
