I’m planning on producing some new cyanotype blueprints at some point. Some will be copies of vintage blueprints, but some will be all-new CAD diagrams. Below are some CAD diagrams at various stages of completion. All are based on a 10-inch by 40-inch format; this will make them appropriate for folding into a book, or hanging on a wall. They would go for $25 per sheet as cyanotypes; I might also do them in frosted (white) mylar for probably a bit cheaper and maybe on regular paper for a lot cheaper. However, before plowing ahead I’d be interested in feedback… which of these are of interest? Which might you actually plunk down funds for? Additionally: I’ve produced a *lot* of CAD diagrams for APR and USXP. Is there anything I’ve done you’d like to see expanded out like this?

I have made available for APR Patrons the following:

1) “Titan III B-C-D-E Propulsion Handbook,” from Aerojet, explaing and diagramming just about everything you want to know about the Titan III propulsion systems, from the SRMs to the Transstage. I originally got this via ebay.

2) “Aircraft Descriptive Data for Northrop F-89F.” A collection of then-current data on the projected (and unbuilt) F-89F. This was from a collection gathered by Lockheed to keep tabs on their competitors. Has some “Secret” markings on it. I originally got this via ebay.

3) Skylab diagram. This very large format illustration was found in the NASA HQ and photographed piecemeal and painstakingly reassembled, using text scanned from another copy of the illustration (with a far smaller diagram, but good text).

4) An original layout diagram of the XB-70. It took several years to get this diagram into this shape. It seems pretty good to me.

Yay! I’ve gone over the $100 benchmark in my Patreon campaign, so I will be releasing at least one large format image or high-rez scanned aerospace document per month. It’s only a pittance per month to get in on this!

These are vastly-reduced versions of some of the diagrams I may include as rewards for Patreon patronage. Not all are unbuilt aerospace projects, obviously, but all are, I trust, of interest to those interested in aerospace. If interested, please consider joining my Patreon campaign. After being reminded of a particular crackpot-type-person, I suddenly remembered a webpage that was a personal favorite, about a decade ago: Crank.net. This was an encyclopedia of the lunacy and whackjobbery that floods the internet. In the late 1990’s and early 2000’s I was a minor target of crackpots, cranks and loons due to a company I was associated with, and my excessive posting to various newsgroups and discussion fora and the like, and was really pretty sick and damned tired of ’em. (Since then I have fallen into obscurity, which is generally for the best.)

Crank.net even linked to at least one web-nut that I submitted, some guy who was convinced that the US had operational SSTO spaceplanes. No, that wasn’t why he was a nut. He believed the XB-70 was a SSTO spaceplane. No, that wasn’t why he was a nut. He believe that the piston-engined Convair B-36 was capable of attaining orbit, and in fact did so. Yeah, THAT was why he was a nut. Sadly, it appears that Crank.net hasn’t been updated since 2005. Sad, given the vast amount of looney crap that has flooded the web since then. I’ve no idea why it ground to a halt.

I’ve been putting together some possible drawings for release on D-size sheets. These are as yet still far from finished, but they show what might be made available if there is interest.

These are the big D-sized sheets, as shown HERE. These will be substantially less expensive than the full-color blueprints. Some of them may be issued in two ways: as a single sheet (such as the to-scale comparisons of the Space Sortie vehicles), or as a “pack” (with all the other drawings). Packs will be less expensive on a per-page basis, but will be the only way to get the other pages.

Other possible drawings include:

2) Orion “Battleship”

3) SERJ-X-15

4) delta winged X-15A-3 (yes, I do have really good drawings of that)

5) Lockheed L-2000 SST

6) Boeing 2707 SST (-100, -200, -300)

7) Space Shuttle (I never have seen a really good set of clear diagrams of that along these lines)

9) Convair NX-2 nuclear powered bomber

General Dynamics SST: 1961

The answer to this contest: GD-Convair’s 1961 proposal to the FAA for a Mach-3 SST. Four Pratt & Whitney STF 102 H turbofans would power this airplane over a range of 3500 nautical miles, carrying 130 passengers. As with the similarly configured North American Aviation XB-70, the wingtips of the SST would fold down to generate compression lift at high speed. Span with the tips horizontal was to be 1379 inches. Convair suggested a market for 150 of these aircraft in the 1970-1975 timeframe. Cost was projected as $14.1 million per plane.

While the on-hand documentation for this plane is pretty lean, it appears that it has some family relationship to Convairs proposed B-58-derived SSTs (see here and here).
