A piece of concept art depicting the AMROC Industrial Launch Vehicle 1, circa 1987. AMROC specialized in hybrid launch vehicles, and the privately funded and developed ILV was no different. What the vehicle looks like is a liquid propellant core vehicle with a bunch of solid rocket strap-on boosters… but what it actually is is a core made up of liquid oxygen tanks, surrounded by clusters of solid fuel motors. The motors were fed LOX from the core, firings together to create a sort of plug nozzle using the aft end of the propellant tank to react against (though it appears the bulk of the expansion took place within individual nozzles). When the first stage motors burned out, the whole thing fell off as a single stage. The vehicle had four stages; stages 2,3 and 4 were made of different solid motors around a common liquid tank core. The whole stack was 82 feet long. It was supposed to have been able to deliver 1800 kilograms to a 200 km orbit from KSC, or 1350 kg to 200 km polar orbit from Vandenberg; a little over 1400 kg to a 1000 km KSC orbit or about 1050 kg to a 1000 km polar orbit. First launch attempt was to be in the latter half of 1988… that didn’t happen.

The domestic terrorists in Antifa are trying to end the First Amendment. They are trying to prevent you from buying books they don’t like. they want to control the debate to control speech and control thought. Compare them to the group of larpers who went to the Capital, wandered around for a little bit, took a bunch of selfies and didn’t set fire to *anything.*

Feel free to stick it to Antifa and buy what they don’t want you to buy (it *really* wouldn’t bother me if ya bought it – or anything else – through the following link, since I’d score a pittance of a commission in the process):

NASA TV to Air Hot Fire Test of Rocket Core Stage for Artemis Moon Missions

Snerk. NASA actually thinks there will be Artemis moon missions.

NASA is targeting a two-hour test window that opens at 5 p.m. EST Saturday, Jan. 16, for the hot fire test of NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) rocket core stage at the agency’s Stennis Space Center near Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. Live coverage will begin at 4:20 p.m. on NASA Television and the agency’s website, followed by a post-test briefing approximately two hours after the test concludes.

So the House voted to impeach Trump. Again.

Meh.

I *tried* to listen to the speeches in the House today. I really did. But the histrionics, the hyperbole, the outright whackjob insanity of some of those overpowered goons squealing about “hundreds of domestic terrorists” was just too damn much.

Feh.

Anyway, on to other matters. Here is a useful chart (from an apparently legit mental health organization) to tell if you are in an abusive relationship. Any similarity to an authoritarian government or an ideological media near you is entirely coincidental. It’s available in a high-rez PDF form, perfect for printing off poster size and hanging up at your place of employment. Or your nearest government office, if you are insurrectionist enough to get within touching distance of such a place.

Official Show Synopsis for Amazon’s LORD OF THE RINGS Series

This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, … . From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map…

Amazon has spent *buckets* of money on this. Telling all-new stories, rather than, say, adapting the Silmarillion, is perhaps a risky move. Their casting choices make it clear that they’re tossing out JRR Tolkiens notions that what he was creating was a mythology specifically for the English people in favor of modern sensibilities, which is another risky move. They are clearly hoping for Game Of Thrones level fandom, but a lot of it will revolve around how good the writers are since none of them will be JRR Tolkein.

Of course, if Númenor is a place in the show, then adapting *some* of the Silmarillion is in the cards. Perhaps it will show Sauron corrupting the King, the invasion of Aman and the drowning of Númenor. Which would be spiffy.

A PBS executive made the mistake of speaking his mind in front of a hidden camera. And since his mind included such notions as burning down the White House if he didn’t get his way and sending ideological opponents to re-education camps, apparently even PBS thought that was a bit much and they’ve invited him to explore new career opportunities in the hospitality and food service industries. However, seems fair to wonder if he’ll score an even higher paying gig in Beijing Biden’s administration…

One could see this as a small,a  very tiny victory in the battle to try to root out the totalitarian whackjobs who have infested out media and culture. What will be more likely to occur is a further effort to deplatform and relegate to the digital ghetto the likes of Project Veritas.

“Bliss” is a movie, if the trailer can be trusted, that takes place in a world that is apparently essentially a utopia. But people have gotten bored or at least used to the wonderfulness, so “brain box” simulations – essentially the Matrix – are created where life kinda sucks, so people will better appreciate reality.

The idea of a utopia that people dislike makes sense. Look at the world we have no: at no time in history have people had it anywhere near as good. And yet all of 2020 was a litany of bored millenials burning cities to the ground because they thought things were terrible and unjust. They were essentially bored with utopia. Thus it will likely always be.

Of course the problem is, and most likely will come up in the movie, that once you establish that the world you live in and fully accept is a simulation, then you can’t *ever* trust that you’re in the actually really real world.
