  1. You would have thought that whole section of the electric grid would have shut down before it went on for that long.

  2. At first I thought it was transformers blowing or power lines arcing, but the varied colors don’t add up to that. I wonder, do the “earth lights” sometimes reported before earthquakes come in multiple colors like that vidoe?

    • The earthquake lights generally appear in the sky, not on the ground.
      They had this footage on the national news, and the orange color that was visible after one flash was apparently due to something catching fire; not a surprise as the transformers are full of oil that works as a coolant and insulator, and it it spilled out when the transformer blew and got on something flammable (like the wooden power pole) it could ignite.
      We had a transformer explode a couple of blocks from where I live several years back, the flash was bright enough to light up the apartment in broad daylight through the window curtains, and the noise was like some one had set off of a grenade outside. In that case it was due to water getting into its oil, causing it to short.
