I suspect that “what” might be trivially easy for some. “Where,” however, is an unfairly difficult question, unless one has paid attention to hints I’ve dropped about my recent trajectory.

An arrestor hook on something in Cahokia, IL?
The Yorktown is moored below the Ravenel Bridge. This is a tail hook from one of the planes in her belly or on deck.
“Arrestor hook on an aircraft” is correct, if a bit vague. But so far the “wheres” aren’t even close. Hint: this was a place that I was not looking for, but decided to stop at on the spur of the moment after seeing some rather simple and uninformative signs along the highway. I expected small… and was surprised.
Southern Museum of Flight?
I don’t know what airframe, but the fact that the skin looks like titanium, and the fact that the hardware looks decidedly post-war, suggests at least a Vietnam-era design. F-4?
