No, not that one. The Messiah spacecraft from the movie “Deep Impact.”

I am looking for good images of it. I have the DVD, and took all the screenshots I need from the movie itself. But I have the UnSpecial Edition, with the movie, a trailer, and nothing else. I understand there’s a Special Edition with some “Making Of” features, and I’ve heard there are additional illustrations (renders, sketches, model photos, I dunno) of the vehicle in there. I’d appreciate any additional screenshots that could be gleaned from them.

If anyone has the Blu-Ray and would be interested in taking screenshots, that’d be even better. I understand the filming model itself was on display somewhere (ILM? I forget), and would be interested in any good-rez photos that may be available.

This is in support of a series of diagrams I need to make for the Orion book; diagrams that may be used (probably not by me) to make a model kit of it as well.

Thanks.

  1. It looks like half a space shuttle, some Ariane V SRBs, what appears to be some Energia strap-on boosters at the back, and various assorted tanks in between. Hope that helps.

  2. > A quick google search found this.

Already had those. IIRC, that’s somewhere at ILM.

  3. If worse comes to worse, you could always do what I do and check your local libraries and also see if you might get an interlibrary loan if possible.

  4. From a library description of the 2004 special edition” Special features: available commentary with director Mimi Leder and visual effects supervisor, Scott Farrar, preparing for the end, making an impact, creating the perfect traffic jam, parting thoughts, photo gallery, trailer. ”

7 libraries in Utah have this available. Interlibrary loan might be the way

It’s also available on ebay for $0.01 and $2.99 shipping.

  5. http://www.dogpile.com might help–a little better search engine.

  6. That other view is a “fan” creation. It’s reasonably well done, but there are a lot of inaccuracies, such as the use of stock but ensmallered shuttle SRB’s.

  7. How bizarre – that McTodd album is mine!

Since then, I have found this page with awesomely large photos of the filming miniature:

I also have the Special Edition DVD – there’s nothing additional of interest IIRC but I’ll check tonight.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
