Living out in farm country, I have well water rather than municipal water. So it’s assumed to be pretty vile. Thus it’s repeatedly filtered prior to drinking or food prep. Unfiltered, who knows what all manner of horribleness is in it.
The cats get the filtered water in their drinking bowl.
Raedthinn, of course, prefers water from *other* sources. Like, say, the bathtub:
I guess it just tastes better.
Neither of the other cats will do this, though both Fingers and Buttons think the toilet flushing is just fascinating. Also fascinating: watching Raedthinn bolding going forth into the Place Where Wetness Happens. Fingers is terrified of the tub, Buttons wary… but he’ll happily watch Raedthinn drink from the tub faucet.

You want to see the cats really fascinated, fill the tub and put live goldfish into it. 😀
Some cats will take showers with you. My sister’s cat loved to take showers with her.
A buddy of mine has water dish/fountain for his 4 cats
they still drink from sink or badtub
but they sitting fascinating around fountain and look how water run in it
You want to mess with a cat? Put an ice cube in their water bowl. (Or a snowmall on a plate.)
Jim
Scott,since we’re on the subject,remember I e-mailed you a while back
about a video on Youtube that was titled “How the dumbest cat in the
world drinks water’ which I thought was cute and another video showing a cat
enjoying the tap water literally pouring on his ear which is highly unusual.
I’m glad I’m not the only one with a cat who does that.
There are water dishes that work like little fountains. Maybe if you get Raedthinn one of those, he will like the filtered water in the fountain water dish better than the unfiltered water in the tub?
Just an example:

I’ve been wondering where you got the name Raedthinn – I googled it and the only hits I get are for your site!

I’ll bet they’d really go for ice cream on a hot day.
I still think they’d have a lot of fun with the goldfish though.
Considering how much they like fish, it’s strange they would have an aversion to going into the water.
Maybe it has something to do with them evolving in Africa, and a body of water might have a crocodile or python in it?
I have a friend who grew up in Alaska, and his cat would wait out on the pier and jump passing salmon, although I don’t think he ever managed to pull one up on shore. 🙂
