Fairchild-Republic, builder of the A-10, tried to win the F-X/F-15 program with a design that looked somewhat like a cross between the McDonnell-Douglas F-15, the Grumman F-14, and the Sukhoi Su-27.
I’ve always loved this design, was there ever a full scale mockup of any kind? It looks like it might have been a little heavier than the McDonnell Douglas plane, I wonder if it had any advantages over the winning design or was it inferior in all categories? Thanks for sharing these great drawings…
The widely separated engine nacelles would have been ideal for using some sort of thrust vector control on the engines to improve agility.
It sure does look like a Flanker in side view.
