I’m working on a few minor bits of self-publishing by way of MagCloud, specifically getting APR up to speed as a high-quality printed version. But I’d like to do some smaller tests first. Seems to me a good test would be a book of my own photos. Nothing spectacular, maybe 30 pages of full-page photos. The question then becomes… which photos? If anyone is vaguely interested in such a thing, let me know what you think. Options include “every damned thing,” or “cats” (because, sure, there ain’t near enough cat photo books out there), or “nuclear bombs” or “museum aircraft” or “landscapes” or “Utah” or… whatever.

  1. Or it could be nuclear bombs AND cats.

  2. I would go for the museum aircraft, especially aircraft from smaller and less well known museums. My wife would like the occasional cat, though.

  3. It should be a reflection of the Unwanted Blog, so every damn thing.

  4. I think you have a real talent for landscape photography. I would go with one that includes many of your panorama shots and, maybe, some of the astrophotography.

  5. I definitely vote for the landscapes. You have real talent in that area.

  6. Take pictures in aerospace facilities and etc. try for a “The Other Science Fiction” style, that is, Mad Men meets Stanley Kubrick, or whatever.

This could mean unrefurbished lobbies, old file cabinets. Maybe rocket bells. Wherever little architectural and style details of the lost first age of space have survived.

  7. Make it a book you’re happy with first. I’m in for a copy.

I’m leaning towards that. This one would be basically just a test of the system, to iron out the bugs in the process and see how good the final product is. So theoretically it could be just about anything. (Something I’d *like* to do is a fat book of nothing but color artists concepts of various aerospace concepts… but that’d be lawyer bait.) So instead I’ve been looking back through the blog and through several googolbytes of backed-up photos for a representative selection (pulled out 70 possible photos, which I’ll boil down to less than 30).

In doing so, I went back through the posts about and photos of Koshka. :'(

  9. I like your landscape work and aircraft stuff, (your cat stuff is fine, but not my thing). The combination of landscape and aircraft could work considering some of the craft that you’ve photographed outdoors.

  10. While my preference would be for cats and nuclear bombs, the first thing that has to happen is that you have to be happy with it. The only problem with your landscapes is that most of them need to be seen in a format larger than any reasonable book.

  11. Nukes !!!
