Just in case you were wondering. I have a number of job searches running… have for a long while. And results like the one below don’t exactly fill me with the sense of optimism about my future as a designer and developer of rockets/launch systems/spacecraft/starships that I once had:

How exactly a search for “solid rocket” leads to Golden Corral Restaurants, I’ve no freakin’ clue. In any event, it’s been half a year or more since there’s been a result that was actually relevant to my skillset. Putting my own doom-filled fate aside, the lack of apparent hiring opportunities for rocket engineers doesn’t inspire confidence that the US has much of a future in space.

  1. Time to get that volcano island lair started, you are clearly unappreciated by the masses and they need punished!

  2. I currently “use” monster and careerbuilder. Both gave good listings for the first six months or so. After that, the offerings were almost random, and often they would be for jobs I specifically rejected. The one interview I got was a result of an employer trolling through the new accounts. My feeling about them is that the systems are designed for the employers, and the employers look through only the new accounts. IT may be that the way to use this kind of thing is to remove and replace one’s account every few months.

  3. Aerojet here in CA? Got a friend who work there Monster had a few listing on Solid Rockets…. Don’t know what your specialty is, because most opening are pretty specialized…. SpaceX ??

  4. If you haven’t checked them yet, http://www.craigslist.org/

Easily the best site I’ve ever seen for job listings.

  5. Maybe you need to switch to Modeling and Simulation. That switch is becoming popular with Aerospace workers here in Florida.

  6. Perhaps Golden Corral has decided to branch out into the rocket business.

Ever thought of becoming like all those ex-Soviet scientists and putting your skills to work in other countries?

I’m surprised Orbital is not listed; I would’ve figured that they would be hiring, considering they have the new Taurus II and Cygnus in development.

  7. “the lack of apparent hiring opportunities for rocket engineers doesn’t inspire confidence that the US has much of a future in space.”

Yeah, I’ve been having trouble getting myself to believe that, too.

  8. Probably already done it, but have you tried hooking up with headhunters?
