Who knew that Saudi televisoon could be awesome??

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/saudiarabia/7950200/Role-reversal-Saudi-comedy-provokes-anger-among-male-population.html

The comedy was an episode in Saudi Arabia’s most celebrated satirical series, Tash Ma Tash or No Big Deal, a take-off of social prejudices shown annually during the holy month of Ramadan.

The central character takes four husbands, explaining herself using the conventional arguments Saudi men use to exercise their legal and religious privilege of marrying four times.

But of course, and you saw it coming…

There are regular calls to ban Tash Ma Tash…

  1. Must be disorienting for them to take from their own kind the things for which they kill outsiders.

  2. You probably aren’t old enough to remember a TV series that got in big trouble in the US for having the premise of a Jewish guy marrying a Roman Catholic girl called “Bridget Loves Bernie”:

That went bye-bye in a big hurry.

  3. A long time back, TV Guide had a great article about Saudi television first coming on the air; since the whole idea of showing any sort of living creature could be interpreted as a violation of the Islamic rule against portrayals of anything other than plants in art, it started out show still photos of palm trees for a few days…this then moved to palm trees being shown actually moving around in the wind…bit-by-bit they slowly worked up to actually showing people in live action, so as not to shock the populace.
