Some people are perpetually offended… and some people are PROFESSIONALLY perpetually offended. Case in point:

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/06/11/naacp-urges-hallmark-pull-racist-card-shelves/

A space-themed, talking Hallmark graduation card is being pulled from store shelves because of the card’s reference to a black hole.

But members of the Los Angeles NAACP say the message sounds like “black whore” in the card’s audio recording. That’s how they hear it, and they say it’s racist,  KABC-TV in Los Angeles reported.

Be sure to watch the video, which has reasonably clear audio of the talking graduation card. While I find the card to be annoying, the pronunciation and reproduction of “black holes” is quite clear.

Sadly, Hallmark didn’t tell these idiots to get bent, but instead knuckled under.

  1. They should have used Carl Sagan’s voice. I guess Hallmark’s going to have to axe the NAACP if each of their talking cards is offensive. So much for the “hole in one” congrats golfing card.

  2. There was a chap a year or so ago who complained that the terms “black hole,” “black humor,” and something else were inherently racist and needed to be expunged from the language. I think he backed off when it was suggested that the language be altered to call his tribe “Negro.”

  3. Sure sounded like holes, not the other reference to me.

  4. The NAACP clown can’t pronounce English properly, so maybe he can’t hear it properly. Maybe he’s just bored and wants to see what he can stir up.

    Epic fail all around.

    Stereotypes exist for a reason.

  5. > Maybe he’s just bored and wants to see what he can stir up.

In order to have power, you must occasionally excercise that power. The power of fear-based politically correctness needs to be flexed from time to time. And so if there’s not something to get righteously indignant about, make something up.

That’s why Hallmark needs to “axe” (English version “ask”) if any of their cards are offensive.
