A photo I took in the middle of November:

Note that it looks pretty washed out, the result of being a telephoto shot of mountains ten miles away with a fair amount of haze.

Now, the minimum amount of “fade correction:”

Seems a bit harsh. So, I simply superimposed the original over the “corrected” as a new layer, and set the layer transparency to 40%. And used the clone brush to get rid of the dust smudge up top. And viola…

Not too bad.

  1. Pretty cool. Wish we had some tech like this back when I was learning photo-recon interp, spending hours on end comparing between pics from successive runs was a major pain, especially with changing atmospheric conditions. I’m sure the sweathogs in the Pentagon and the basement dwellers at NSA had nice toys even back then. Field operators didn’t. All we got was aerial photog, and lucky to get that.
