The horses in the field out back a few days ago… horse hair caught on the barbed wire picked up a lot of frost.

Raedthinn’s just a bit big to sit atop that perch, but that doesn’t stop him.

  1. Mornin’ and
    Happy-New-Boxing-Fire Egg Day, thingie…
You’re getting a bit good with that there camera, old son,
Love the frost pictures, and the cloudscape.
Are you sure Raedthinn’s not my cat’s brother??
For your astrohotos, have you tried taking multiple short
exposures and stacking them with Registax?

  2. That contrail looks like a rocket launch, and that is a damned nice starscape shot. How far away is the mountain in that?

  3. Magnificent work!

  4. Merry Christmas Scott 🙂

    Nice pics.

I’ve tried that with Astrostacker, with unimpressive results. But I decided to look up Registax, found the mai website for it, and went to download it… and my anti-virus software immediately went bonkers… “pak generic.oo1”

    Around 10 miles.

  6. Wow, live in the east for awhile and you forget how FAR away things are! Most of the time here in PA the apparent horizon is under 2 miles. Much under!

On really clear days, which aren’t exceptionally common, from Tremonton you can see all the way south past the Great Salt Lake to the mountains beyond. From Tremonton to West Valley City on this map (about 70+ miles):

only recommended it to you because Sky + Telescope recommend it…
