The paint scheme is interesting; back in the early late 1950’s-early 1960’s artwork always showed Atlas with the bottom section red, as shown here, although I never saw a photo of a operational one with a red bottom on it.
Here, the red paint almost looks like red primer to prevent corrosion on the non-stainless steel parts.
Was that its purpose?
