A few days ago, Irish acting unit Liam Neeson made a rather startling admission: 40 years ago in Ireland a female friend of his was raped by a black man, and in the rage that followed Neeson walked the streets with a club. He wasn’t hunting the rapist, but was instead hoping that just *any* black guy would decide to attack him, and then he’d beat the feller to death. This rage apparently lasted a few days and then dissipated. He told nobody about it at the time, and it was the sort of tale that he could have *easily* carried with him till he died with nobody suspecting a thing. The story brings up a few immediate questions:
- How many black men were there in Ireland 40 years ago?
- Of those that were there, how many would have been likely to see a tall, young, *angry* Irishman walking about and would have thought to themselves, “Yes, I do believe I shall set upon that clearly harmless young man and attempt to perform acts of violence and ill will upon him.”
- WTF was Neeson *thinking?* Not *then,* but just a few days ago.
A friend of yours gets raped, your ability to remain calm and rational will evaporate. You will think and behave in dubious ways. But *40* years later in Current Year you’d think he’d have the sense to keep his trap shut. A white man expressing anger towards black men as a group? That’s just plain politically incorrect. In an age when some kid just standing there politely smiling is rage-inducing enough among the far left to inspire death threats, someone who lives in the world of public relations should know better. Something he should have seen coming is the insta-mob mentality calling for the termination of his career. Behold:
Calls for Liam Neeson to be digitally removed from ‘Men In Black’ after racist comments
So far as I can tell, Neeson broke no laws, he just admitted to having had DoublePlusUnGood thoughts when he was a much younger man. So the comparisons to the replacing of Kevin Spacey with Christopher Plummer in “All The Money In The World” seems a bit excessive. But then, we’re living in a world where the only acceptable response to minor annoyance is outrage pegged at 11. While I doubt Neeson will be removed from “Men In Black,” I can certainly see his future acting prospects dimming, perhaps slamming down in Mel Gibsonian proportions. And there is no possibility that Neeson could not have foreseen this outcome himself. So another question seems obvious:
Was this his plan all along?
Liam Neeson is sixty six years old. That’s still *kinda* young by Hollywood Male Acting Unit standards, but his roles these days seem to be more or less limited to action movies. perhaps he’s sick of them. Perhaps he’s *physically* sick of them, believing that a few more of them will break his tired body and deny him the enjoyment of his coming years. I have no idea what his financial status is, but I imagine he’s pretty well off, more than able to sit back and relax int he lap of luxury for the rest of his life. it thus seems at least possible that he did this as a way to potential get out of future action roles that he is contractually obligated to subject himself to.
Realistically, he just had a brain fart and told a story he’s kept bottled up with no strategic planning. But who knows. Maybe he’s smarter than the average actron.
