Took some photos tonight of Fingers and her five amazingly healthy kittens, now in the basement until she can heal up. No closeups of her wound… it shall suffice to say “it looks like several square inches of raw bacon, something that looks great while cooking, but terrible on a cat.” She looks miserable, but she also looks kinda… relieved. She’s back to being friendly and purring all the time.

  1. Good to hear she’s on the mend.

  2. Glad to hear that! It is always a strain with a sick/injured cat in residence. Have you given her some pieces of raw beef liver? Supposed to be good for building up the “blood”, as the old timers said.

  3. I am glad Fingers is better 🙂 And the kitties are cute!

  4. 2Hotel9: Liver? If I tried to give that to my cat he’d look at me like “WTF, you expect me to EAT that? Pu-lease.” 🙂

  5. That’s great Scott, but keep an eye on her making sure she get’s enough water and not running a fever. Purring a lot can actually be a sign of great pain if she’s doing it all the time if it’s out of character. And i know it sounds gross, but if you smell anything bad, it might be an infection, which is the main thing to watch out for, especially if she’s cleaning the kittens. Jenny loved turkey baby food and cold Pedi-a-lite (unflavored)

Yup, I know it. Endorphins flooding the little kitty-brain to help wash out the overloading pain receptor start up the purr-response; that’s why a lot of injured and dying cats purr themselves into oblivion. I suspect that they might get much the same “tunnel of light” thing that humans with “life after death” experiences get.

    > if you smell anything bad

Yeah, been paying attention to that, too. Given where the wound it, gangrene would be a monumentally bad thing. So far, though, no such smell fo rotten meat has come along. She got a shot of strong long-lasting antibiotic at the vet, and a dail spritz of another.

  7. I tried to donate a little $$$ to the Fingers Recovery Fund, but when I go thru your donate site, it keeps stopping it at paypal. I’ll try just sending it to your email.
