A Youtube video describing the concept. It was designed and put together in spare time as a “joke,” but is described as being quite functional. Instead of sighting directly on the weapon, the Chain SAW (har-har) is based on the idea that heads-up displays will allow off-bore sighting. Put an IR laser on it and wear IR gogles, and shooting from the hip seems to make all kinds of sense. Now, where things get spooky is when the guy says that the next step is to attach a backpack and Steadicam mounts. Now… where have I seen that before? Let me think…
Ah, yes, the M-56 Smart Gun from the movie “Aliens.” The M-56 was a heavily modified MG-42 machine gun attached to… wait for it… a Steadicam harness. The United States Colonial Marines wielding these impressive weapons were also equipped with heads-up displays allowing off-bore sighting. The Chain SAW looks like it’s based *directly* on the Smart Gun, but stubbier and with a flare launcher underneath.
Gimme.
The Steadicam has apparently been attached to “real” firearms before:

Nice street sweeper!
Do want !
Damn them…. there goes my ‘original’ Nerf Vulcan mod concept!!
(I sort-of expect theirs does a bit more damage as well as a higher rate of fire ;o)

“LET’S ROCK!!!!!”
The M-56 was a pulse ;aser wearon, that’s why it was “plugged in” to fire and it had no recoil. I’d like an airsoft gun with a small propane tank and spark plug ignitor.
I knew this guy in L.A. who has a huge collection of NASA and Gerry Anderson models, real ones, not any copies. In his basement was a small room packed floor to cielinh wiyj every movie gun made, he got a bunch of the MIB wearons like the Cricket and real guns that had been modified c
for stunt work.
If you want to make a statement, the GE mini-gun is tough to beat. I’ve seen a CO2 BB one on youtube, but that was a while ago.
