Remember just two months ago when we all pointed and laughed at some Californians who built their community near the edge of a cliff, which then began to collapse and eat away at their property? Good times! The Brits have decided to get in on that action:

North-coast landslide close to nursing and care home

An old folks home was built on the Island of Jersey, ridiculously close to the edge of a cliff. According to the place’s website, it looks like a spiffy establishment with some great views (but we should all know just how seriously we should take spectacular views in ad material, yes?). Better, the cliff was made of loess, which has about the same structural properties as a sand castle. The place opened about a month ago… and the cliff promptly gave way due to ocean and storm erosion, and because loess is a *terrible* material to make up a load-bearing cliff. The structure is now right at the edge.
