A week or so ago I unloaded four kittens by the simple expedient of sitting outside the local grocery store with the kittens in a soft-sided carrier with a “free kittens” sign. Those kittens had been born in my basement, and got a daily dose of human contact, and by the time they were sent out into the world were lovable, friendly little fuzzballs.

But born literally within days of that litter was another litter. This second litter was born outside and spent most of the first two months virtually hidden away, in fields and in barns and under sheds. The upshot here is that this litter is *not* human-friendly, and if you actually catch one, you’re taking your life into your hands. However… that’s not to say that they don’t recognize that there is food to be occasionally had on my back deck.

This litter (Mommacat’s offspring) is much less of a Benneton ad of colorful diversity than Fingers’ litter. There are three black kittens (each with hints of red, just like their mother) and one tigerstripe (looking a great deal like this one’s much older half-sister, Fingers). No idea what sex they are… I’ve managed to catch a few by the scruff of the neck ond hold on for a few seconds, but the claws are always in full view and the risk/benefit analysis just doesn’t support detailed examination.

  1. One more breed generation from those and you got full-feral wild cats.

  2. Lots of farmland around here. The truly feral cats wander away to go romp and play and slaughter the varmints in peace, free from the meddling humans.

  3. Tigerstripe one is really cute one

  4. >Tigerstripe one is really cute one

oh, I don’t know, look again, he’s got the eyes of a killer……

  5. Wow, the first litter’s evil twins… this has great cat soap opera potential, particularly if the first litter become noble Samurai cats, and this litter evil Ninja cats, as three of them are already correctly colored for. 😉
BTW, you may want to try to avoid handling these cats for reasons other than the claws – one or more could become rabid from contact with infected animals in their environment.

  6. >he’s got the eyes of a killer……

I’m not sure I’d say “killer,” but I do know that every tiem he looks at me, he’s *judging* me….

  7. “Tigger” is OBVIOUSLY the “leader” of this little army. Note how his eye’s view the world as “his” already with no attempt at hiding it. He’s got plans for this world, BIG plans and his three minions await, ready to carry out his nefarious plans…..

Now all Scott has to do is catch them practicing their martial arts and Ninja skills….

(He will then, of course have to be killed which will turn the other litter into avenging Samurai! Dedicated to protecting mankind and the world from “Tigger’s” evil plans! Ya, sorry Scott but you’re just a plot point in this scenerio :o)

Already have, actually. The past few days have been uncomfortably warm (in the 90’s… Europeans dropping dead left and right), so the cats have been hanging out under my back deck. After sundown, they’ve been coming out and the kittens have been having knock-down drag-outs atop the deck. I’ve watched them toss each other around, including tossing each other into the sliding door (the first time that happened was, to put it mildly, a disturbing sound). There does not as yet seem to be an Alpha.
