Although it’s based on a ridiculous premise, the forthcoming flick “2012” looks to be jam-packed with explodey goodness. Take a look at the new high-def trailer:

  1. Apocalyptic doom is always a big seller during a down economy. Timing the release for just before Thanksgiving is a bit odd, though. These usually come out in the big summer releases.

  2. Oh, and the Mayans were not “one of the earliest” human civilizations. Not by a long shot.

  3. Germans
Oh je der Emmerich schlag zurück und diesmal macht er ganze welt platt

Oh boy the Emmerich strikes back, this time he flatten the total world

our German “Spielberg” got again taste in Epic Disater Movie
but 2012 look more like Hollywood script rape of Stephen Baxter novel “Flood”

do we need another “we all gona die Movie” ???

Woody Harrelson was never so cool like in this Movie 😉

  4. This is what happens when a Mayan prophecy and America’s first non-white president line up.
    All hell breaks loose. 🙂
BTW, in the Mayan Bible, the “Popol Vuh” the destruction of the world in 2012 will be due to jaguars.
I highly recommend reading that BTW… it not only has a fun sense of humor in it that’s sadly lacking in the Bible, but it also has one great slam-dunk finish that puts most other holy books to shame. Scott in particular might get a kick out of it, in that there are certain aspects of “Thor’s visit to Jotunheim” that show up in the end of the Popol Vuh, except that this time it’s the gods that make the bad guys look like egotistical idiots, rather than the other way around.

  5. a note on Maya “abuse” calendar

    its a system based on
    The Tzolk’in a 260-day calendar
    The haab a 365-day calendar
they form a synchronized cycle lasting for 52 years
that is used in a “the Long Count” calendar (the one about the 2012 crap)
and start in August 11, 3114 BCE or 0.0.0.0.0 in Maya numbers
    the Maya count in base of 20 | 0.0.0.1.1=21 | 0.0.0.1.0 = 40 etc

so in December 21, 2012 the calender goes from 9.9.9.9.9 to 0.0.0.0.0
in Christian point of view it’s the end of the world:
fire and brimstone rains from sky, Nostrondamus in TV
    USA become a Socialist state
    and Emmerricht make another Movie

in Maya point of view its only the end of the Long Count
and new one start, so they had switch on 0.0.0.0.0.0 in calendar

    more on that

  6. Well.. you may _think_ that Mr. Van, but I’ve got a whole flock of Snatch Bats lurking on this side of The River Of Pus that may want have a little talk with you.
You _are_ going to sit on the red-hot stone bench, and that’s all there is to it.

  7. And don’t think for a moment that you’re going to get away with that “Firefly on the end of the unlit cigar” crap again either.
We may be gullible, but we only fall for any particular trick once. 🙂

  9. > but 2012 look more like Hollywood script rape of Stephen Baxter novel “Flood”

Not new, not even new for science fiction. The novel “The Second Deluge” was written in 1911 by Garrett Serviss; the novel “Deluge” was written in 1928 by S. Fowler Wright, and a movie based on *that* was made in 1933. I’ve read the novels (both reasonably good for what they are), but haven’t seen the movie. Supposedly the FX shots of New York getting wiped out by a tidal wave inspired “Day After Tomorrow.”

“The Eternal Adam” was a short story sketched out by Jules Verne but apparently actually written by his son, dealing with a global cataclysm that causes the seabeds to rise and the continents to sink. It’s sorta “meh.”

However, “2012” appears to be based not so much on these as it is on Every Disaster Ever. It’s not just the seas rising, but the continents fragmenting… and apparently meteors falling out of the sky (though those might be lavabombs, dunno). “2012” looks to have no scientific basis whatsoever, just an oppotunity to show neato scenes of devastation.

  10. Hey, Kennedy is back in the White House. 😀
