You never saw “Chain Lightning”?
That’s one of the coolest fictional aircraft ever made; they did a full-scale mock-up of it for the movie… it’s supposed to fly at super-high altitude under turbojet power after jettisoning the twin under-wing rocket booster engine/fuel units.
