All holidays/memorial days eventually morph into pale, cheesy shadows of how they began. Twelve years after the 9/11 attacks, we get these:

AT&T, Marriott, others apologize for tacky and outrageous 9/11 tie-ins

Quite a number of poorly thought out attempts by various businesses alrge and small to play into 9/11. My favorite: “In remembrance of those we lost on 9/11, the hotel will provide complimentary coffee and mini muffins from 8:45 – 9:15 a.m.”

Fla. pastor arrested before he could burn Qurans

Pastor Terry Jones, of “I’m gonna burn a Koran” fame, was arrested on his way to burn 3,000 Korans. The actual charges – felony charges, no less – are not given. Probably something to do with driving down the road in a truck with the Korans pre-soaked in kerosene. Still seems a stretch, though.

Dozens Attend 9/11 Million Muslim March

Having a million Muslims march on D.C. on the anniversary of Muslims killing 3,000 Americans, including hundreds near D.C., was profoundly tacky. But it was transformed into farce through the magic of having only 25 or so actually show up.
