When I read that Chris Hadfield, the Canadian commander of ISS for Expedition 35, had released a music video of his version of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” shot while aboard the ISS, I was skeptical. But it turns out to be rather remarkable. From 0:31 to 0:37 or so convinced me.

It’s a damned shame that the popular songs about space since Apollo have been pretty universally either anti-space, or generally depressing. “Space Oddity,” “Major Tom” (Peter Schillings version), “Rocket Man,” “Silent Satellite” were all pretty popular, and all pretty down on spaceflight. I can’t think of any popular tunes that were *pro* spaceflight since Apollo ended.
