One of the first news laws to be proposed under the Obama administration.

Former Black Panther and Illinois congressman Bobby Rush(D) does an end run around the 2nd Amendment

Under HR 45, if you can’t pass a complex test written by the U.S. Attorney General (described in detail below), pay the tax, give up fingerprints and a biometric-capable photo of yourself (that can be turned into a digital facial-recognition number and used as a de facto national ID), every gun you own will become contraband and subject to confiscation, while you stand trial before imprisonment.

Here’s the Irony (that’s “irony” with a capital “I”): The bill is being pushed by Illinois Congressman Bobby Rush… former Black Panther. So what we have is a black guy who is using written tests (Jim Crow voting rules, anyone?) to push gun control (pro-KKK anti-guns-for-the-black-folks laws in the post-Civil War South, anyone?).

I have a hard time seeing this sort of law, and those who support it, as anything less than outright treason.

  1. Be thankful you live in Utah. They aren’t going to take away guns here anytime soon. As for the rest of the country I shudder to think what the liberals will do in the next four years. Not even in office a week and The Messiah already wants to spend nearly a TRILLION dollars on band-aids, graft, and handouts. Obama, Pelosi, Clinton. . .it’s enough to make you wish for a revolution. And it will only get worse.

Last go-round with the Clintons, the Big National Crisis was the existence of a few groups of “extremist” militia groups. I predict that they are going to come back with a vengeance, especially if new gun control laws – which the USSC has already pretty much said are unConstitutional right out the gate – get anywhere.

Since such groups doing goofy things is an excellent opportunity for totalitarianists to pass new laws, that might be just what the Obama crowd *wants.*

Time to re-read “The Moon is a Harsh Mistress.”

  3. Hey! “I” predicted the “militia” thing first in another comments thread :o)

But let’s be honest shall we? The “crisis” came to a head after Oklahoma City, which like 9/11 had a focusing effect on the American people. Especially when people began to realize that more than a couple of these ‘militias’ were not preparing for “in-case” but were preparing FOR a war to “take-back” America.

And lets not forget at the time there was ample evidence that along with the “militias” both passive and active support, financing, aiding and abetting by “Constitutionally protected, non-political” religious groups, organizations, and churches of wanted “Domestic Terrorists” (NOT the Oklahoma City Folks either) who unlike Bill Ayres DID murder, maim, and destroy by bullets, bombs and other means American citizens and property?

Which lead of course to the rather FASCINATING argument by most of the above groups that such acts were in fact both Constitutional and within a citizens RIGHTS as a “protest” against what the citizens felt was a MORALLY abhorrent but LEGAL under the Law practice they felt was objectionable? And that said citizens should NOT be prosecuted for say “murder” because the bomb they set killed someone but for a lesser charge of, oh “aggravated assault” because it was an “accident” even though they knew someone was in the building when then set the bomb, made no attempt to lure the person away from the building or warn the person, and in fact stated in court that it was “gods will” because he worked in the building that the person died.

Of course the Federal responses to most of these incidents were not usually anything more than routine, ANY response drew harsh criticisms from conservatives and comparisons to the botched Branch Davidian raid.

Adding to the fire was the “Liberal” media which bounced back and forth between “front-line” stories on the ‘dangers’ of the militia’s to stories on abuses of Federal Power by the FBI, and the administration’s lack of a coherent plan for dealing with the “growing” domestic crisis.

Not all that much “changed” really between Clinton and Bush except 9/11 made American’s more worried about external rather than internal issues of security. Of course I’m guessing everyone noticed that it suddenly became a LOT easier to pass or at least sneak through a lot of regulation and legal restrictions after 9/11 that the Republicans had been screaming bloody murder about during the Clinton years. (National ID card? Talk radio is back to screaming about how that’s going to be Obama’s first step towards Socialism, but keep neglecting to mention that Bush and the Republican majority Congress rammed that particularly bad idea through. It just happens to be taking effect after Obama was elected not because of it…. But who am I to dispute the likes or Rush Limbaugh :o)

The “new” gun control law(s) seem to be purposely un-passable in form and easily challengeable on constitutional grounds, which makes them look like what they probably are; SOP bills that will die quietly away in committee but will leave enough of a paper trail to allow the politician responsible to “show” they were acting on campaign promises or at least trying to for the next set of mid-terms.
