Before I left California in 2004, I stopped in the Hiller aerospace museum one last time and took a bunch of photos with my then-crappy digital camera. on display were a number of display models – including one full-scale mockup – of VTOL aircraft and helicopter concepts. Here are the VTOL concepts.

next to Frence were also the US Aerospace study Ringwing VTOLS

the penultimate image, wat are those two “Dents” ?
part of engine or weapon pods ?

  2. Several of the Luftwaffe concept aircraft showed up in the flight sim IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946, which is a freaking bargain on Steam for ten bucks. I haven’t tried the VTOL bird yet, supposedly it is a royal pain to land.

  3. Scott, was the silver ringwing concept suppose to have STOL or VTOL capability? It has some characteristics of a tailsitter…

  4. I believe all of these were to be VTOL. The design shown in images 96 and 97 seems to have been a flat riser and used “vanes” to direct the flow downwards.

  5. Check Out My 1st prototype on Twitter. It’s the( Next Big Thing!) An Electric Self rotating wing 2nd is Bigger with Better Motors!
