In this video, a political protester promises to burn a place down with Molotov cocktails, and other assorted bits of violent asshattery.

Go ahead and guess: Tea Partier, or Occupier?

  1. Yes, the OWS is full of idiots who have no idea how to bring about change. At least the Tea Party has gone in the right direction and actually has made some progress. Now, if only the Liberals would realize it is not they who hold power but their constituents, then they might have a fighting chance.

If only the Libertarians had concentrated on the little stuff during the 70s, 80s, and 90s — they might have now been a forced to reckon with.

Oh, I doubt that. Every time I’ve seen a Libertarian conference, it’s been a chaotic mess of whackadoodlism. In order for a political party to be successful, it needs to be both somewhat focussed and unified. Libertarians are not, and cannot be, either.

      • You’re right. Any outfit whose philosophy is sauve qui peut is going to have a hard time becoming focused and unified.

And people wonder why I’m a monarchist.

        • > And people wonder why I’m a monarchist.

Since that’s the *worst* form of government imaginable, I still wonder.

Kings, Lords, Emperors, Regents all serve a single, common useful purpose: target practice.

From Twain’s “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthurs Court:”

Well, it was a curious country, and full of interest. And the
          people! They were the quaintest and simplest and trustingest race;
why, they were nothing but rabbits. It was pitiful for a person
born in a wholesome free atmosphere to listen to their humble
and hearty outpourings of loyalty toward their king and Church
and nobility; as if they had any more occasion to love and honor
king and Church and noble than a slave has to love and honor
the lash, or a dog has to love and honor the stranger that kicks him!
Why, dear me, _any_ kind of royalty, howsoever modified, _any_ kind
of aristocracy, howsoever pruned, is rightly an insult; but if you
are born and brought up under that sort of arrangement you probably
never find it out for yourself, and don’t believe it when somebody
else tells you. It is enough to make a body ashamed of his race
to think of the sort of froth that has always occupied its thrones
without shadow of right or reason, and the seventh-rate people
that have always figured as its aristocracies–a company of monarchs
and nobles who, as a rule, would have achieved only poverty and
obscurity if left, like their betters, to their own exertions.

          • Monarchy “the worst form of government”? Not by my measure. Compare the body count of every king, prince and potentate in history with that of the various representative governments and people’s republics since 1789 and you’ll see what the worst form of government really is — measured in gallons of blood.

But I don’t expect anyone to agree with me, and I’m not here to push my philosophy. I’m here for the aero-planes.

As for Twain: funny guy, but he was wrong about the typewriter, and he’s wrong about this, too. Lots of famous, witty, talented people get the big picture wrong.

          • > Compare the body count of every king, prince and potentate in history with that of the various representative governments and people’s republics since 1789

Compare the representative democracies to the monarchies. And why stop at 1789? You get to miss out on such wonderful examples of monarchy as the 30 years war, the hundred years war, the Crusades, The Brits and French slaughtering each other every fifteen minutes, the Islamic conquests, the Chinese conquests, etc. The history of slaughter is written largely by those with the power of monarchs, be they “royalty,” or be they God’s Own President For Life (which is no different from monarchy).

Any man who decides that he has unquestioned power over his nation needs to be shown just how wrong he is. Anyone who claims to have God backing up his quest for ultimate power needs to be shot directly in the face with a 12-gauge loaded with buckshot. After all, God’s on his side, and will protect him.

            > As for Twain: funny guy, but he was wrong about the typewriter, and he’s wrong about this, too.

He was perfectly correct about this. Any man who submits to the will of another – specifically a man who did not earn that submission, such as a hereditary king – is a man who has given his dignity and worth away.

          • Monarchy is really not the worst form of government, The worst form of government is where the people forget the Monarch rules at their behest. Or Congress. Or the President.

Any wise ruler, Dictator, Monarch, President, or Prime Minister realizes they rule and the whim and behest of the people.

      • And that’s why every third party has failed and will fail — they all lose their focus and unity after a while. Personally, I like the Libertarian Party philosophy and politically gravitate to their ideas the most, but in reality I tend to support the Republican Party and vote more along their lines because their philosophy is the closest one to mine that has any force or is in power.

Libertarians could be both focused and unified if they would remember a few of their core philosophies and realize it’s not the Presidency they want!

Why does every third party think that winning the presidency would be a good thing for them? To succeed you must first get seats in Congress and State and Local governments before seeking out the Presidency.

        • It’s hard for a party to attract mainstream support as long as it is dominated by wingnuts. It’s also hard unless the party can make a credible showing on the ballot. The common plurality voting method hurts here. Focus on state and local offices to build a base would also help.

  2. Some people are foolish.

However do not forget that Police often uses provocateurs who say such stupid things, demolish, attack people and officers and do other things.

This is as developed in USA as it was in Soviet Russia, sadly. I had a chance to briefly see an american Police manual for handling urban unrests. You would be dazed. Funny thing is that these american manuals were in the past used in communist countries for training. How ironic…
